I know it's going against the grain, but I prefer the released one. Lyrically, the bootleg version is superior, but as a whole, I think The Vault: OF4S version fits the vibe much better. There's a beautiful sleaze about it that the unreleased version just doesn't have.

1st of all, HI 2FREAKY long time no see Second of all, I never heard any other sides the one on the Vault. And I LOVE that one. When I was going thru friend drama in HS, I played that song religiously. &

One time, I thought about selling my Prince records...I didn't...but, the only reason was that I didn't have any money...and I thought it was all that I had that anyone would want...otherwise, I would never sell Prince...and 4 sure, he'd give me away, if he got tired of me...never know.
Great song..yet some people can be so cruel, and not even worth the garage sale add for the paper. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

The old version of this song is one of my all time favorites. He should make songs like this more often. But he don`t like to write sad, melancolic songs. That`s a pitty. I believe that sex is a beautiful thing between two people. Between five, it's fantastic.

I agree, I prefer it with the Clare Fischer strings on. It gives the song a whole extra dimension, and the arrangement it really interesting and unusual. It really adds the slightly off-center unease of the song.

No, no, lyrically the song is superior in the unreleased version. The personal lyrics are why he never released it. Course, Steve is dead, so he could release it now, knowing he won't get sued. lol..
The song is mournful, soulful, full of verve. This is right up there with classic Ray Charles. The strings in the remake are really good, but the lyrics don't make any damn sense. All you others say Hell Yea!!

The original is a magical window into Prince's soul at a difficult time in his life.
The released version - a cheesy, throwaway turd without reason for existing or meaning.
