I know you're acknowledging them all, but you expect Prince to?

Ooo er, looking down on the rest of us because ?

Are you more of a fan than the rest of us ?

What happens when we "mess with a Prince fan" ?

Should we be scared ?

Or should we laugh at the coward behind the computer screen ?

I think the only cut i heard from this album is "soft and wet" Love the synth in there and the squelchy bass on it. the playful vocals make it a repeat for me =)

Don't get me wrong.. I'm right there with you. Wondering why he didn't do anything for the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain, one of the biggest-selling, breakthrough albums of all-time. Hoping he does something next year for the 25th anniversary.

I guess for the 20th anniversary the movie came out on DVD but... damn I was thinking more along the lines of a double disc that included songs by Apollonia 6, The Time, and hell even The Modernaires. And now classic b-sides "God", "17 Days" and "Erotic City".

i still find it amazing to think that somebody who is producing brilliant music at the minute, has been producing music of the same calibre (and better) for longer than i have been alive. how many artists can keep raising the bar for so many years?

it is a huge credit to prince that he is as good as he has ever been, and i cant wait to celebrate that fact once again in Dublin!

I agree totally. It's kind of my arguement to when the negativity arises here and comments about his recent stuff suck!!!! Rubbish.

How much can you squeeze out of one person? All the official releases, plus all the boots, and then all the associated artists?????

The man is amazing!!!! 30 years in the business AND STILL doing his thing!!!!

Go Prince!!!!!

thumbs up! I just posted something similar in the sales thread and "AMAZING" was the word I used to describe him as well. He's 30 years in the game and still turning out great music. I don't know anyone else who has achieved anything near what Prince has done. His overall musical output has been prolific with consistently high quality for three decades. It's unreal. He's unreal. All we can do is be grateful that we have been able to experience it in real time.

One of my wishes would be an updated live version of I'm Yours, Just like how he did with Bambi for Nude and Undertaker!!!

I wouldn't mind hearing a repeated loop of the "I'm Yours" intro as a new track! Oh wait! Didn't George Michael do that with his 87' hit "Hard Day?"

'Just as Long as We're Together' is SO sickly FUNKY! Classic track. And I've always thought that 'Crazy You' was grossly underrated.

Prince entered the arena at a perfect time: during a trend transition when disco was dying. But my brotha couldn't enter the music world without, at least, paying homage to disco with "Just as Long as We're Together," before diving into the new sound that catapulted him to stardom.

Congrats 2 "For You" 4 enduring all these years! Bravo Prince!

We're celebrating the 30th Anniversary here in Toronto at Purplelectricity "Goes Disco" Prince Party on Friday, May 9th. I know the date's a little delayed, but it's the closest date we could get. Our 20th Anniversary of "Lovesexy" party will also be pushed into the summer.

Didn't Prince say something about "Prince" being his first true album because of the artistic constrictions regarding "For You" ie that he wasn't allowed to do what he wanted by Warners and it wasn't until the second album he was given free reins to do what he liked ?

Hasn't he said something like having bad memories from that period and never listens to the album ?

Mmh, never heard it like that, and I'm quite sure he had complete artistic control from the get go. But! The sound engineer or manager, or whatever, didn't have full hearing. He didn't hear the bottom of the sound very wel and put the basses way upfront on the album. That's why 'For you' sounds a little 'muffled'. I actually miss the bass in a lot of Prince music (like when doves cry lol).

For you, to me, is the best Prince album, because it is the most telling... It also is an album! Start to finish, no filler. Look at the favorite songs posted in this thread, every single one is someone's favorite (perhaps only 'baby' isn't). How many albums have that?

This is the ONE!!!! biggrin This is the ALBUM of all albums for me. The moment I connected with a long lost friend was when I heard this album. I LOVE IT!! For You is my fav song. Soft n' wet is the other. It is still super funky!! I wish he'd re-do the entire album. I love his raw talent on this. I was 12 yrs. old and at my peek of finding out who I was and what I felt and Prince said it for me. It felt like I had been looking for him and he finally arrived. Thank you Prince for the best music in the WORLD!!!! cool

I loved him from this first album - even before I played it (it was his picture. . .I thought "I know this soul") and then when I played it - a GUSH of energy came over me like a great memory of a past life. I was hooked!!!! I have been hooked ever since and will always be hooked! He should write a song called: "Hooked!" wink

"I'm HOOKED and I don't care who knows it!!" Hee ehee. cool

with the exception of some of his most recent releases, FOR YOU is probably the album I listen to the least.

Congrats for the initial effort but he didn't hit his stride until Dirty Mind.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/
