Prince's voice

I've always been interested in singer's voices, especially as they become older and was wondering, do you think Prince's voice has changed much throughout his career? It seems like his falsetto is still just as strong as it always was.

Also, has he ever had vocal problems during his career like so many of my favorite singers?

thanks

I think it's still very good if not better. smile
Which is pretty cool, since some singers lose their voice over time. Hell, didn't that almost happen to Mariah Carey? And she's young. eek

His voice is awesome!! especially in concert,. The high pitch singing and guitar high notes and sax high notes have always made me.....well I'm not going there, I'll just say I appreciate them very very much....always wondered if other girls were like me....For some reason his voice is different than others...I figure it's because he hits so many high notes because of his range...it sure makes me smile biggrin Forgive me for being so forward.....I'm just real sensitive to high pitches that Prince seems to hit very easily and frequently in his music and by his voice. It totally rocks!!!! One of my boyfriends played Sax....That was wonderful too!!! lol

Now between us:) [I'll let you in on a little secret]:

I keep a copy of the 'Come' album on my bedside table and on some nights I listen to the sweet and so sensually whispered beginning of 'Pheromone', which goes like this:

Come
Lie down beneath my shadow
Lie down beneath my shadow with great delight
And your feel will be sweet 2 me
Come
My left hand under your head,
While my right embraces time
Therein, my virgin, love's wine

I listen to it repeatedly till I fall asleep. It really feels like he is whispering right in my ear. I never go past it, into the adventurous rest of the song, otherwise I don't sleep at all:)

Without a doubt, especially LIVE!!!!

That is where it has improved the most!

I have seen nearly all the tours from Lovesexy til the O2, and I can honestly say that vocally he just gets stronger and stronger!!!

He dosn't seem to scream as much now, but he still does.....and when he does, oh, he still hits them notes!!!!

His voice is another instrument to him that he uses to full effect!!!

yes

such a range thats why I love Kiss the way he can be sooo high I cant reach tht note and then falls all the way back down to a rich tone.

His speaking voice has deepened I think since he began and its very soft and gentle. i would guess he takes care of his voice like he takes care of his body with his diet etc

(I remember when Julie Andrews had throat cancer and now she cant really sing anymore it must be a crushing blow to loose that gift)

I love that line : My voice keeps on gettin higher and Ive never had my nose done

It's beautiful in many different ways mushy so many...

But I think I get off on it the most... when it's actually not doing anything all that special. When he's just singing normally. On songs like:

Little Red Corvette
The Morning Papers
A Million Days

and many others... where it's nice and warm.

It can do so much and I'd be mushy over it

Falsetto of course is a star among stars love
all of his ballads have a wonderful falsetto.

The Beautiful Ones
Damn U
When 2 r in Love
TMBGITW

And I'd just finished listening to "The One"... a voice singing lyrics so beautiful you could cry... mushy
I'm just all lovey-dovey on this post, aren't I?
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I never do wink

Nearly all of my favorite songs of his are ballads to a certain extent. People think that the explicit nature of his lyrics is where he's at his strongest.

Ballads are where he's at his strongest thumbs up!
Pick any ballad and you're likely to find a song that made someone somewhere fall in love with him and have been in love ever since because of it wink

I say, if you hadn't already b4 hearing the song "If eye was ur girlfirned," that song will make you fall head over heels.

Probably one of his best, if not his best, vocal performance EVER. In fact, it makes me wonder what it sounded like originally before he sped up his voice to make it a Camille track. Would it have had the same effect or not? hmmm

His falsetto yields some of his strongest performances, but it doesn't necessarily mean he should use it all the time. Having a variety of octaves comes in handy because it just gives him more cards in his hand that he can use for his work. cool

I wouldn't say that his falsetto has necessarily improved over the years because not even Prince can compete with his past wink
BUT doesn't necessarily mean that his falsetto isn't still impressive. Have any doubts, give "Somewhere here on Earth" a listen thumbs up!

That's amazing since most pop/rock singers start to have troubles in their 40s and Prince is stronger than ever. Do you know if he has ever had voice lessons?
