anyway, i remember when i was a kid if a sex scene ever appeared in a movie that i was watching with my mom, i'd feel really awkward and uncomfortable. i didn't get much enjoyment out of the moment at all. your kid probably feels similar. who wants to watch sex scenes with their parents? ew! though i did have a fun ex-step-grandma who, when we would all watch movies together, would make loud comments during the dirty parts. if a woman took off her top, she'd scream "LOOK AT THOSE BAZONGAS!!!" or if people were having sex, she'd shout "GET IT!!" ....ok, THAT was fun. Stop it. You have got to be joking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The truth is, NOTHING GOES OVER CHILDRENS HEADS, what they do is keep it to themselves pondering it, until there is a time when it is clear to them the meaning. Then even if it is years from now, they will say, OOOOHHHH, THATS WHAT THAT WAS ALL ABOUT!! TRUST ME, CHILDREN ARE LIKE SPONGES....AND ELEPHANTS, THEY SOAK IT ALL IN AND NEVER FORGET.If they don't ask the questions....it will come up sooner or later. Be prepared.
I fast forward or make my children, or anyone elses close their eyes on mature things, they don't watch the simpsons or anything like it. I try not to let them watch much tv, I want them to be creative on their own. Yes everyone will do their own thing with their own families, just don't make the mistake of thinking they are that naive. PS, no they dont hear much cursing either, whatever they get outside of the house but that is just me. I tell them what is what. "......I gotta' lotta' butta' 2 go"

When I was that age in the early 80's we had things like Jaws, The exterminator, Enter the Dragon, The Warriors, The Wanderers, Officer and a Gentleman - They're the films I grew up on! Age restriction laws were well lax back then. Me and my friends could easily rent adult comedys at 12 years old like hot bubblegum, king frat, kentucky fried movie etc from the local video rental shop back then. It's totally different now. I went to see officer and a gentleman with my mates when it came out my mum found out and wentmad but them she also went mad when I was 10 and saw grease! walk with crooked shoes www.myspace/syblepurplelishous

I was just happy that she's interested in my idol,I love showin him off!As a result she also loves the Purple Rain album..... I was 9 yrs old when I watched Purple Rain for the first time. I loved it and it helped in turning me into a lifelong die-hard fan. It's all about how mature your daughter is. She seems to be based on that. Here's a high five for you and your daughter I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I was just happy that she's interested in my idol,I love showin him off!As a result she also loves the Purple Rain album..... Last week during school hols my 12 yr old daughter was about to put on Purple Rain CD. I said, 'Hell no, if ur gonna hear it might as well SEE it too'. Tho I did fast forward the 'kissy bits', which was actually worse on FFW. She loves a lot of his music (dunno why Prince doesn't do music workshops for kids! They need a good education! Or maybe open up the aftershow to under 16's) She has passed her 'initiation'.... Ha! Ha! I will be taking her to Dublin this year an she doesn't know it yet...

My nipper has heard me swear far too much over the years. She used to watch South Park as a nipper and be subjected to plenty of other crap, including violent video games. She's an angel and possibly one of the easiest teens I've ever been witness to bringing up. Apart from when it's blob week. Then she's a moody bitch. I suppose we just have to take each one as we find them and try to muddle through. Plenty of honest chats, hugs and kisses and personal space and they normally come out ok. And a few values and morals don't hurt either.

A word to parents/teachers and whoever might show mature movies to kids. DO NOT fastforward love scenes. It just makes it look ALOT worse (And utterly hilarious) Try the skip/next scene button instead.
And is it just me, or are parents (not talking about anyone here) more likely to let kids see violence than sex. That always seemed wrong to me. I mean, sex is a beautiful, neccesary thing and violence...is just Destructive and unneccesary. God, I love American culture. Anyway, I think as long as your daughter is mature like you say, and you aren't a lousy parent, its not a bad idea.

If you watch it with her & do not cite it as an example of good acting, or how to treat women, or as a lesson about what to do when standing around Lake Minetonka, it's fine.

I remember seeing it at my Primary school monthly film club! Another classic! God, I loved / love that film - one of my all time favourites!! My little boy has watched PR with me - but I've got my finger on that 'skip' button - there's some things that will kind of go over his head, but the 'love' scene is NOT appropriate! (He's only 4, nearly 5!!) Or the swearing!! Mostly we skip to the music - but not Darlin' Nikki!! He loves UTCM too - especially the part with the bats in the cafe! It's a tricky one, and I suppose it depends on your child, your relationship with your child, and we all have to make judgements as parents. The world is a strange place sometimes, and you can't protect them from everything, maybe it's better to prepare them for the REAL world rather than some 'ideal' of what we wish it would be And, I agree a tender 'love' scene or even 'sex' scene is better than voilence any time!

Having a sister a few years older than me I lived through her teenage years so started liking him at around 9 yrs old. I used to get in detention for singing "Ant music for sex people, Sex music for Ant people!" and for writing it in my books! At that age you don't really know exactly what you were doing - but it was great fun doing it! At the same age, one of my favourite songs at that age was 'I owe you one!' by Shalamar. It wasn't until quite a few years later that I then realise what it was that I actually 'owed'! It's all good fun and part of growing up. I wouldn't change a thing! Life's a Parade!
