opinions on this please...

Dunno if anybody cares or not,but I just let my 9 yr old daughter watch Purple Rain, which she really liked by the way, shes watched it 3 more times since. Now,do u think I was right to let her watch it at her age or do u think that maybe its a bit too raunchy in parts, would anybody else let their child watch it?
I was just happy that she's interested in my idol,I love showin him off!As a result she also loves the Purple Rain album.....

personally no I wouldnt, I even skip the bits in the old bond films for my kids well when they were nine. But really everyone is different and my huby would as he figures most of that goes over their heads any way. My 13 year old has seen grapphiti bridge and was like WTF? he enjoyed it tho and i think it was an insight to the times the clothes etc for him and has brought him closer to me in a funny way as he 'gets me'

dont worry about it theres so much else thats 'wrong' on telly that you cant censor everything they are subject too. heck the simpsons is so near the mark in every possible way! but they all love that.

I loved Bond movies as a kid and I can tell you now that the name Pussy Galore went straight over my head. Adult material often will unless the child is aware of it. And I loved the naughty scenes in Bond. I didn't know why but by heck I enjoyed them smile Personally I think it's more embarrassing for the adult than it is the child. Which then goes to show how immature we are.

You really should be more worried about exposing your nine year old to the awful acting than anything else. Mind you that bit where he slides his hand down to her panties is a bit rude. And I really like it wink

I was 9 when I saw Halloween and Carrie and about 10 or 11 when I saw Porky's.

She should be fine - although I'm not sure if I'm the ideal comparison of how you would like your kids to turn out!!!!! eek wink lol

The joys of the Pirate video boom.

When I was that age in the early 80's we had things like Jaws, The exterminator, Enter the Dragon, The Warriors, The Wanderers, Officer and a Gentleman - They're the films I grew up on! Age restriction laws were well lax back then.

Me and my friends could easily rent adult comedys at 12 years old like hot bubblegum, king frat, kentucky fried movie etc from the local video rental shop back then. It's totally different now.

I loved Horror films as a kid especially the Halloweens and Friday 13th's.

The only one I remeber I wasn't allowed was Evil Dead. Again I was about 11 or so and sitting watching it with my sister and her friend. As soon as the tree raped the girl I was kicked out of that room and not allowed back in!!!

I think I got to see the Excorcist before I ever got the chance to see that again!

I agree. And it makes it better that you are watching with her just in case there is something she dosn't like/understand/or wants to question.

When my kid's were younger, I would create a distraction during naughty parts, by dancing in front of the tv or throwing cheerio's all over the room. cool

Anxiety

letting a kid see a movie with a little bit of nookie is less damaging (in my opinion) than letting them see stuff like rambo or terminator where people are running around with guns and body parts are being splattered all over the place.

anyway, i remember when i was a kid if a sex scene ever appeared in a movie that i was watching with my mom, i'd feel really awkward and uncomfortable. i didn't get much enjoyment out of the moment at all. your kid probably feels similar. who wants to watch sex scenes with their parents? ew!

though i did have a fun ex-step-grandma who, when we would all watch movies together, would make loud comments during the dirty parts. if a woman took off her top, she'd scream "LOOK AT THOSE BAZONGAS!!!" or if people were having sex, she'd shout "GET IT!!" ....ok, THAT was fun. lol

I think Purple Rain is totally inappropriate for a 9-year-old.

They can get hold of worse at school, I assume.

Following on from my other posts it was from friends at school raiding their parents collections of things that we saw alot of what we shouldn't. Our parents didn't know anything about.

You can only police and protect so much! The more honest and open you are with kids, the less they try to get away with behind your back!
