This synopsis is not accurate. I believe the one most people hear is a studio recording. There are some differences from the live benefit show and the one most commonly circulating.

There's differences between all four of the circulating recordings of which I'm aware, three of which are generally considered to be rehearsals with the band as they learn and practise the song in readiness for the live performance, as opposed to them committing a studio recording to tape for potential future release.

The three rehearsal versions are distict recordings (i.e. one is not an edited version of another), and appear to emanate from two different sessions.

Is there a published version of this song? Hi Langebleu.

Hi Twinkly1 - the song has never been officially released and only performed live once as far as I'm aware.

Yes, it is. It would have been great on Purple Rain.
