Alasseon said: Prince could pick up every role in the Stones and probably do it better. Mick Jagger isn't gonna play lead guitar any time this century, nor is Keith gonna sing.

These two videos show otherwise.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Mick wasn't really playing "lead guitar" and dammit, he looks like someone familiar with that coat on... wink
I gotta give credit to Keith. He sings better than he looks.

I know. Just adding a little poetic license.

You saw that jacket right? It looks like MJ's Motown 25 mixed with a Prince jacket. (Ironically they were wearing them first in the 60's.)

Mick picked up the guitar like he was about to play "Let's Go Crazy" but..... he didn't LOL!

Everybody loves Keith warts and all but has that Dorian Gray thing happening.

But the great part is The Stones are still rocking and they came back together and starting the "Steel Wheels" tour their shows have been great.

Ron Wood and Charlie Watts are jamming in the new "Shine A Light" film. Mick and Keith are doing their thing as always.

I think the stones audience was not prince's audiences. It may have been the same reason they were throwing trash at justin timberlake at the SARS concert in Toronto.

Mick yells, Prince sings. Keith sounds like a cross between Bob Dylan and Tom Petty with a cold. That was mean.....sorry

If you look at the way that Jagger performed live back in the mid' to late sixties, he would actually sing the songs. By the mid' seventies however, he seemed to take to just shouting and rushing all through the words and songs onstage. He definitely lost his great skill at conveying songs in such a distinct and meaningful way.

I'm probably not adding anything new here but whatever. A few months ago I started a thread about this. But I pointed out the irony that having seen the concert documentary of this tour on TV, The Stones were playing the same kind of music as Prince but getting cheers for it. It's no secret that The Stones are heavily influenced by Black music (Rock, Blues, R&B, Funk, etc.), and it was heard within that sound. And the crowd was loving it.

But with Prince being a Black artist and playing his mix of the similar sound (along with other stuff like New Wave and Electro), the audience weren't giving him the time of day. Yes, there may have been different factors as to why like the audience's impatience and unpreparedness for a new act or whatever. But I wouldn't be surprised if racism played an underlying part in it too.

I was just saying that it was rather ironic and sad that a white group like the Stones, playing the same kind of sounds that folks like Prince (and his ancestors) paved the way for are getting more credit.
