You know what... I really don't know which one I liked better. I love both of the songs and thing they're among the best 3121 has to offer. Which one I prefer depends on my mood, I guess "The Dance," I currently like better because I feel like its a really powerful number. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I love them both. If I had a gun to my head and had to choose, I'd go with The Word. [Edited 3/3/08 12:40pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I don't think the 3121 version of The Dance is the best version of that song - to say nothing of it being better than The Word. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I like "The Dance," but it's a little overwrought. Plus, I hate the way it leads into "Get on the Boat."
"The Word" is fresh-sounding. It was immediately a standout track on the album for me. It was Prince experimenting and doing something unexpected again, one of the reasons I love his music so much.

Who sings them? If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

The Word wins in my book. The Dance is just horrible.
i liked The Dance when it was first released through the npgmc on The Chocolate Invasion. that version is lightyears better than the new overdone kitschy song he turned it into. bad move imo. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I was just listening 2 this cd in the car on my way home. The Dance is by far my favorite track on 3121. It's Prince at his best....from way back then. Powerful. It's somewhat on the same level as Hate U.

Totally agree! He just messed up The Dance with all those stupid plastic sounding percussions and the mish-mash ending... Just can't listen to it... The Word is just perfect apart from the digital sax hook...

I agree...though I wouldn't go so far as to call The Dance "horrible." I just find it overwrought and bitter. It's like he was trying to recapture The Beautiful Ones...but he didn't quite get it.
