Just got "The Truth"

I've actually had it for a month or two, but I just started listening to it yesterday razz

Arming with the lyrics, I listened through today thumbs up!

Some amazing lyrics nod
that'll take me a while to get through, memorize and figure out lol

After I figured out the volume knob, I was music to it just minutes ago and its amazing how simplistic some of the music is. In many, he's just armed with an acoustic guitar For someone who's spent his career perfecting different studio techniques, its a nice change for him to go back to basics.

My favorite hands-down is definitely "Circle of Amour." Some beautiful music mushy and the tone in his voice is just... more beauty cool

Other tracks I like "Other side of the Pillow," "Fascination," and "Comeback"... which is kinda sad, both with the content and cuz its so short. I've got a feeling about that one hmmm

I find it interesting how some of the sound bits and vibes he used I recall hearing in either one of the following albums, NPS ("Until im in ur arms again" and a few others) and Rave Un2 ("Strange but True").
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Though i havent listen to it in years shrug

When i first heard this album i thought the lyrics sounded like prince had matured a little and grown up.
With songs like "The Truth" , "Dont Play me"

Animal Kingdom..fish
I know this track doesn't get a lot of love here at the org
But i heart it specialy the waves, water, dolphin sounds lol

One Of Your Tears
I love this song too..
but he's got to kill the track with that one cheesy line lol
Better than the used condom U sent me
WTF...Mabye he was mad at someone at the time, who knows chair

Comeback
Im not sure, but im guessing this writen about his son pray
When ever i hear this one is makes me think sad
Tears go here touched

I always thought "Wecome To The Dawn" was as sad one too
It's like when he used to say "May you live 2 see the dawn"
He or we thought it would be this Great Place or Time, but in relality this is The Dawn.
And it not all that its thought to be hrmph , Kind of like "All that glitters ain't gold"

Every piece a puzzle and every name a clue (K A R M A)
Every choice U make is karma so be careful what U do

Man In A Uniform

I think I'd heard that somewhere... like people weren't sure what happened and that clarified it for them. I think it was the first song he wrote that acknowledged the loss at all. When I heard through the lyrics while listening to it, what I heard came back to me... and I think that was its purpose.

As for... the tune who's name I can barely type... it was a classic WTF track for me... and pretty much confirmed it'd never work out between us lol
Not when he writes those kinds of lyrics... doh! barely listenable.

But i heart it specialy the waves, water, dolphin sounds lol

rolleyes The dolphin sounds he used in "Dolphin" I liked more than this. What he used here is the classic sound effect people play when they want to know what a dolphin sounds like

Being a marine bio major, that synthetic sound he used here is nothing compared to the real thing thumbs up! trust me, I know the real thing.

The Truth and Don't Play Me are my favorites on this disc. I just love it when he's pissed.

Animal Kingdom makes me want to eat lamb kebabs - the cuter the food, the better after that nonsense. rolleyes

I think he used the synth for the animal sound on purpose. You know...so he wouldn't be exploiting the animal - who couldn't give his permission to be recorded?

Here's some of what I wrote after listening to it the other night. I think I'm starting to fall back into my niche cool

I finally figured out the volume with "The Truth." I was already starting to catch up with the lyrics and I'd been looking at them less and less. "Don't Play me" is coming more and more into my favor. The lyrics are starting to make more and more sense and I'm slowly becoming familiar with him again as a person.

"Circle of Amour" remains my favorite, but for some reason, I get a sad vibe from it when it came to some of the lyrics. When it went into the instrumental break towards the end, I felt like I wanted to cry for some reason. I'm sure the song is about a circle of tight girlfriends that were always there for one another, but could the line "circle of sex" imply that they were lesbian girlfriends? Nothing's off limits with Prince. When I listen, I recall the vibe I got from "Until I'm in ur arms again" from NPS... but throughout this song, the music is beautiful. The keyboards he's using here sounds very familiar to me. Not the notes, but the sound of the keyboard. Reminds me a little of mine when you play one of the songs programmed into it.

"3rd eye" I'm still figuring out. The guitar scheme he's using sounds very familiar, like it was used by another artist. Though I'm lost through most of the song, the last verse really stands out... where he says "the only one who can save u is u..." and w/e comes after razz

"Dionne" has another air of sadness about it, but I recognize the harpsichord as one of the main instruments he uses in it. It's not quite as insulting to "Dionne" as I thought originally (u know how he is with his songs about old g/f's... they do him wrong, he insults them in a song, etc.), but I"m still figuring the song out. I think I might be liking it less than before.

"Man in a uniform" I'm still figuring out too... but the only thing that I really don't get into is the way he says "man... in a uniform"... like c'mon Prince, are you serious? haha... but who knows, it could become one of my favorites with time.

"The other side of the Pillow" slowly hit me. The tone in his voice felt like home and it's been a while since it has. Something that kind of snuck up on me, but I just started smiling uncontrollably because I did feel at home with him. I guess taking that atrocity of a song out of the line-up is reconvincing me that we have a chance... yeah right. Age difference, not to mention how unreachable he is. razz
I don't quite get how he's cool as the "other side of the pillow" though. giggle

"Fascination" truly feels like a precursor for "Strange but True" with all the musical effects that he uses, but the way he delivers each verse somewhat reminds me of that song. He doesn't really sing in them much at all. The lyrics will take a while to get through, but I am digging the scene. cool

"One of ur tears" is a song that I'm not too cool with. Not really into it all that much... but I think I started figuring out what it was about. Its very sad. Prince feels like he can't live without this girl and if she doesnt want him, he'd rather die... even says his breath is not worth anything. Must have been a low point for him.

"Comeback" almost gave me chills while listening to it. Thinking about the context of the song. This is the first time he'd acknowledged this particular death in a song and it must have been the hardest thing for him to write, but maybe it was about time he told the truth.

"Welcome 2 the dawn" will be another that I'll figure out with time... what it truly means. I feel like I want to get a deeper meaning from it, as with all the other songs, but that's something I'll have to feel with my heart and soul to know the answer to.

cool that's better

lol lol lol

I love Truth, Don't play me, Dionne, Circle of amour and most of all welcome to the dawn (which says acoustic version! Where is the full version?)

I also like one of you tears but HATE the disgustingly (cheesy or not, but horrible) used condom intro. It so lowers the tone of a beautiful song.

Dreamy, I love your write ups on the albums - especially as they often give a altenative outlook to albums that I've been listening to for years.

I'm sure you open up a whole new perspective to many others on here that read your opinions from a new perspective.

The Truth is great. Songs like The Truth, Don't Play Me, Fascination (my favorite on the CD), Other Side of the Pillow, Dionne (my new favorite) and Man In A Uniform (personal connection to that) just kick ass. This so should have gotten released on it's own, especially for when it was done. It would have been huge. nod

I've been on the album nearly all week. When I was listening to the first couple of songs, I was getting that sinking feeling that maybe... I've been listening to it enough...
Tomorrow probably will be the last time I return to it.

I'm slowly catching on little by little.

"Circle of Amour" remains my favorite. It sounds like the idea of "If eye was ur girlfriend" revisited... going in2 the relationship that girlfriends have with one another, only this time, he's merely an observer. Not just the lyrics, but the music... all of the keyboards and synths that comes with it are just mushy beautiful.

Though I dig all of the songs for different reasons (except for one), there are a couple that aren't quite up there as the others.

"3rd Eye" is somewhat repetitive... and actually, I've got no idea what he's going on about nuts falloff the last verse alone makes it worth a listen cool it really makes u think.

The only other track not quite up to par with the others is "One of ur tears." I'm sure I'll appreciate it later on... but it somewhat reminds me of "Silly Game" from Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic... an R&B track that's kinda weak compared to the other material. They even have the same feel.

"Welcome 2 the Dawn" is very... sorry, spiritual razz lack of a better description. I feel like I'm slowly catching onto what he's talking about, but I can't quite describe it in words. Whether the Peter Frampton "sound box" trick works for him, I'm not quite sure. Most cases, it does work, but I think the 2nd time he says "Welcome 2 the Dawn" with said voice-box doesnt come off quite right. But I felt like almost touched when I hit it since it was the last song giggle

Almost all of the tracks have a sound/feel that parallel a track either from NPS or Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic

Circle of Amour/Until eye'm in ur arms again
Dionne?(not sure if it his was this one or another song)/Undisputed (one sound bit in this song he used later in Undisputed)
One of ur tears/Silly Game
Fascination/Strange but True
Comeback/Tangerine (though their only similarity is being good, but a little too short... though Comeback wins hands down :comeback: cry )

And "Other side of the Pillow" has all kinds of reasons why it's another of my favorites batting eyes
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
