I was 4 when I saw and heard of Prince for the first time with Little Red Corvette and 1999. I thought he was a weirdo in high heeled boots who wanted to be like Michael Jackson. lol With that, I thought 1999 was a cool song and a song that didn't sound like anything I had heard before.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You, know I never likened Prince to Micheal Jackson when I first saw him. I always crushed on him. Even when I was 8 or 9 and it felt weird to crush, I would listen to his music and try to memorize everything after like one listen.

I didn't like alot of his music, I think it was too sexual for me at that age and I wasn't feeling those things for women. I was a michael jackson kid so love and sexual themes were a heck-of-alot stronger with Prince. My dad played his music in the house and I remember him talking to my mom about the name change to prince and he seemed to dissaprove or laugh at it. I don't actually remember the first time I saw his image but the name change/unnaming was what really attracted me to Prince. He became larger than life and unbound by rules like keeping your own name of all things. I didn't have to know what gender he was anymore. BLEW MY YOUNG MIND.

The first time I ever heard a Prince song was probably 1978 or 1979 when IWBYL was released I used to have one of those K-Tel records and I would play that song over and over and I would try to translate the lyrics with these big headphones on listening to it....LOL

The first time I ever saw Prince was one of those old POP video tv shows before there was MTV and I saw him doing "Controversey"

I didn't put it all together until a few years later when 1999 and Little Red Corvette were played on MTV

My first thought.....who is this guy and why does he look like that??
My second thought.....damn this guy is FUNKY!!

Belive it or not I still have that K-Tel record....I had forgotten until maybe about 5 years ago I had it

One thing is apparent, his unusual look made sure he was remembered. Do you in the beginning he tried to play down his "pretty" look? Im talking after IWBYL...because during Dirty Mind era he wasnt so er...ah, hot. ill At least, I dont think he was.
