What's wrong with the rest of it? It's one of the gems on Emancipation for me.

Mike, really. The lyrics are the least to the song. But the rest is actually quite good. As said, one of the better songs on Emancipation.

Sure, but you do have preferences right? On what basis?

Or do you think someone can simply like all music?

I choose my music. It's my choice. Hence I do not have to justify it.

ooooo great song, one of the few non cryptic songs about his life, and where he was before he was prince. it wasnt sad for me i listen to it sometimes in transit in mpls. when it snows because it reminds me that once he was just a kid with a demo.

Aww. Come on, I've been listening to Prince since my teens, I know what it's like having to defend your music all the time. I'm not judging you (yet! smile), I'm just curious about this. Some of my friends and co-workers have this taste in music I cannot understand. Therefor I want to try and understand. 'Make me understand!'

In my language you have a saying: You can't discuss taste. Blatant nonsense of course. Taste is the ability to judge, whether it is music, food, wine or architecture. You can say, "it taste good", and end the discussion. But when you can talk about on what basis you judge and appreciate it, you have an interesting discussion. Some people have more knowledge about wine and can therefor appreciate a good wine better than I can. That doesn't mean I can't like that wine, I can, and I do!

Nice song. very melancholy (sp). It give us insight into Prince as a youngin trying to make it in the business and also is disillusion with it also.

There are only a handful of songs I won't skip over when playing the bloated Emancipation album.

White Mansion is one of them. cool

I like that song. It's one of the most memorable songs on Emancipation.

That couldn't be more true! When you sift through the dross that is that 3 album albatross that one shines above many others.

I bought it on cassette out of a discount bin in Germany. Strangely, at the time, I felt that his newfound "freedom from slavery" wasn't really serving him too well.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
