i notice elsewhere there's the uncontrollable urge to hate on his movies as well. i wonder if anyone considered that just because a film doesnt make sense to us or we think it's bad movie making, it doesnt necessarily mean there's something wrong with it.

maybe there might be something wrong with our lack of a poetic view on his work, which is largely, poetic and very simplistic.

i've never qute understood why people would follow an artist they dont understand. maybe we're looking for something?

The way I see it: if he had fun making these movies, they served their purpose. I don't see how an artist can give something to his audience/fans if he doesn't himself truly enjoy the creative process, if he doesn't first of all 'please himself' in a sense. Some may call this selfish, but I think it's the basis for all truly personal, heartfelt works of art.

And what I most admire about Prince in terms of his film-making projects is that no matter what the critics said, he followed his heart and stuck with them.
