I was looking at 'about.com' ,at it's top 8 albums of the 80's.
And of course Purple Rain was on it.
As the author was describing the album, he referred to how it too contained some controversy like Previous albums.
Of course he was talking about 'darling nikki' on how it described someone Masturbating.
Its the same thing that everyone mentions, and started the exp. Lyric tag.
most people remember the story.

It's not like Prince was the cleanest artist in the world before PR came out.
And besides, if I was a mom, I wouldn't buy my young daughter the soundtrack to and R rated movie.
She should have checked it out first before giving it to her kid. My dad used to do stuff like that when I was younger. Hell, even when we go to the movies together he'll look the movie up on the internet to see if it "inappropriate" (he lets me watch whatever I want now, he just says he doesn't want to watch stuff like that WITH me. )

Tipper Gore MADE her kids (as young as 6 years old) listen to PR soundtrack, I mean come on, how or would a 6 year old KNOW what the word "masterbation" meant? Prolly not! I was seriously bracing myself for that song when it came on when I saw the movie the first time. Cuz I've been hearing all kinds of things about how terribly nasty it is... took me a little while to get used 2 it as with a lot of his nasty material. I think I'd be a touch more shocked if I didn't know about this song.



that's originally why I didn't really want any of the albums b4 that... simply because I wanted to avoid the nastiness cuz I wasn't comfortable with his filthy mouth...
and look where I am today. I dig "Darling Nikki"... not to mention that "Sister" is one of my favorite songs on "Dirty Mind".
I guess when you're exposed to something long enough, you develop a tolerance, even taste 4 it even for someone like me who's been taught that cursing is bad
