The whole "Emancipation CD"
Quotes i've read, which sum up this CD: While I agree this album marks the end of innovation we came to expect from him in the 80's and the beginning of a familiar mixture of funk, rock and R & B, this is nonetheless a masterpiece I think this is one of his best ever albums, and one of the best pop albums of all time. Having heard almost all his work, this would be my desert island recording. I have had this cd since it came out in 1996 and it is well traveled, I've listened to the first disc because it contained the title track and that was about it. Maybe my age at the time was a factor. I doubt it but maybe. I dug this trilogy out over the weekend, dusted it off and gave it a much deserved spin on the CD Changer. How many other artists have released an album this varied? Not even The White Album reaches that level of variety, though it comes close. (This is a bit of an aside, but the only artist I can think of who's explored more styles than Prince is Zappa). On this new album, Prince shows both the creativity of old and the image-conscious, egotistical bullshit he is known for now, albeit in a somewhat interesting way, alternating the good songs with the bad, thus showing his inability to provide his fans with a truly great album Taken as a whole this set is a prime example of a huge ego winning out over good taste. But in fairness this work makes more sense when considered as a trilogy of individual albums, with the slower tempo of Volume 2 being the clear highlight. This ain't nothing but a mess. It's in no way a real "album"; it's just 36 songs, arranged mostly at random, hopping from style to style. You'd have to say that the more adventurous tracks are only half successes; you'd also have to say that the best tracks are also the ones that most closely sound like other, better Prince numbers from the past. And yet ... when you're actually sitting at home listening to the damn thing, it's pretty satisfying. Track listing 1. Jam Of The Year 2. Right Back Here In My Arms 3. Somebody's Somebody 4. Clearly underrated, though I've come across a few people who've said I should get it asap. Now that I have it, I'll finally be able to listen to it and see for myself that it was worth the wait

I know its only little more than a year old, but to me its a PERFECT pop song with a great little guitar solo at the end of it as well. I noticed that the song did not get a very positive response with people(critics) who were reviewing the 'Planet Earth' album when it first came out. This is why I think that this song is underrated. I also feel the exact same way about the song, 'A Million Days'. PERFECT POP! | |

I think it took me a little while before I fell in love with it. I used to just like it. And actually, I thought it was a little too long at first. haha, I'll let you know if I believe it also 2b the "perfect pop song". "A Million Days" is another one I'm crazy for  my favorite song on Musicology and actually, it's unique in the fact that it's not a typical verse-chorus-verse-choru type song and that's kinda why I like it had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. If you really want to know what Prince sounds like when he's in love, this is the CD to get, especially Disc 2. I could see you making a few threads from that disk alone DPR I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that | |

I wouldn't be me if I didn't.
I had so many reasons for wanting this disc and none of them was because of how much music it has. Now that I have it, I can't wait to get started on it. As soon as I'm finished with this semester, I'll be on it for weeks. I know how much he was in love during that time. I've seen a few interviews where he's either with Mayte or talking about her and he just seems a completely different person. If I really want to know what their relationship was like, all the hopes and dreams he had, and ultimately Prince at his happiest, I had to have this album. The Love We Make 12. Emancipation Not to get off into a different subject here, but I must say I think 'The White Album' is a better album than 'Emancipation' is. The album has some real classic tracks on it such as, 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', 'Julia', 'Yer Blues'(a really underrated song), 'Helter Skelter'(awesome rock song with a most unfortunate reputation) and 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun'(wonderfully bizarre song). Songs like these are pretty much ahead of any songs that are on the 'Emancipation' album, which puts 'The White Album' album on top for me at least.
