[TGE] Simply nothing else like it...

The Gold Experience is a very special album. It says so much about prince and at the same time, a lot of the tracks speak to me as well.

The music is so unique that I feel like he's done nothing quite like this. I know that some ideals he raised in the previous 2 albums are revisited here, but something about the music just puts it on a different plane altogether.

Of course, a large part of my love for the album is embodied in "Gold," which is my favorite of all Prince/prince songs.

I have to get some sleep, so I'll write in more detail later.
Until then, show TGE some love thumbs up!
I know it has a lot of fans here because many recommended it to me early on.

I don't mind the npg operator, but it does seem like a tacky conceptial attempy to mix things up.

TGE is like the second SOTT smile It just has that magical feeling through and through, you really feel moved once you've finished listening. Not many albums have that effect. Still at a loss as to why this album didn't perform better in terms of sales.

The first time I heard Gold I just thought to myself, this song is a masterpiece. Too bad it's so accessible that the goodness wears off after a few listens. sad

I like the npg Operator..introducing an expected experience....I think it's clever. The cd is very danceable...I remember hearing "Now," for the first time...and when the song started...it startled me...Of course I love the slow tracks...very sexy..."The Most Beautiful Girl..." is very gentle and kind.

"We March." deserves special recognition because of it's dedication to declaring the historical wrongs of society...

My favorite song from the cd, is, "Gold."

"Gold.." has a very "Alchemical spirit." Love it.
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

All right, time to do a proper post falloff
It's not always the easiest album 2 get in2 (in my case), but sooner or later, I'll be ranting and raving about it.

Here are a few excerpts of what I've written on my blog about it lately.

TGE has managed to transcend time. Like I listen to it and every song is engrained in my brain so I can't have many new thoughts about it like I do with all the others. My feelings towards it haven't changed. It'll take a while to maybe get used to it again, but it still feels like an incredibly special album. There's simply nothing else like it.

TMBGITW has become one of my favorites and I wrote this:

I hardly think about it, though truthfully is one of the better tracks on the album. WB had been wondering about this song for a while and wanted it to be on "Come"... but Prince just had to keep some of his favorite tracks for himself by saving them for this album. It felt like I'd been watching his career during this point and I know that this song has been up and around. When I finally get to hear it on an album, I'm simply overjoyed that I can finally have this song.
And it's this verison that I love the most. So what if its overproduced? I love the different sounds he uses and his falsetto is 2 die 4. Can't help but think of that line [from "Love 2 the 9's"] "and if we said we loved each other, instead of smiling, would u cry?"... its a gift to write a song that's so beautiful you could cry over it. I never thought that about this song b4, so its strange, but I'll take w/e adds to the enjoyment.

I'll add more later, but this is a start cool

I totally agree with you. TGE is in my opinion a stand alone masterpiece. It has massive production, but retains hugely powerful sound. There is something really magical about this recording that, in my opinion hasn't been captured in this way before by Prince or any other artist (that I have heard).

I believe that in years to come that TGE will stand close by the the side of SOTT as one of the milestone prince productions that sets him apart from other musicians.

A truly great Album, in my opinion

thumbs up! thanx 4 ur reply
and I think you're right. It is magical and has a powerful sound only surpassed by his earlier work. I think most call this his last "great" album because he hasn't reachieved anything quite like this since its release.

It's like he put so much into this album to make sure it was perfect. As a way of showing that he can still write great music and doesn't need to rest on past accomplishments. He did this to set himself apart from that and I think he succeeded.

And it truly is an experience because once you start, it goes by so fast and it takes a while for your mind to get back to reality. cool
