Call me crazy but I think Purple Rain was...

influenced, to some degree, by Peter Frampton's "Frampton Comes Alive" album. I think he was looking at some of the best selling albums of all time (which that album is) and studied what made them great and so "big". I imagine he did this so that he can try to make Purple Rain "big" as well.

Just listen to the very end of "Do You Feel Like We Do" and tell me that this doesn't sound similar to "Let's Go Crazy".

I'm not judging Prince in any way and I'm not saying I think he copied anything - I'm just saying it's very similar in many ways...

Wut do u'all think?!??! (and don't take the easy way out and just say "I think ur crazy!" lol Go listen to that Frampton song!!)

Don't worry, someone else will come along
that will know who this other guy is you speak of

As for me, I'm not familiar with him.

Well..."Do You feel like we do." runs 14:35 and "Let's go crazy.: runs 4:39
When u take the last 4:3approx...and play it simultaneously with "Let's go Crazy." there are minor similarities...however...The two songz sound great together...give them a tornado spin....that is my favorite thing 2 do...it never ends....

It may be crazy...but it's dang cool. cool

I thought I might get that question..lol In hip hop terms it stands for "original gangsta" and it's used to say that someone had been around a long time or that they r "old". It can also stand for "old guy". lol

Afraid to give Prince the credit he deserves? Trust me if he wanted to copy from somebody he could have picked a lot better examples than some P Frampton!

I give Prince credit as the most talented mutha-f'er out there - it's not about not giving him credit. Purple Rain is one of the most creative and revolutionary albums ever made!

But artists are always inspired by other artists - nothing wrong with that. And I just think he might of been inspired or influenced by that Frampton song. At least on Let's Go Crazy.... PEACE! wink

Euripides

I don't think you're crazy. I think he went back even farther - to a movie called Pal Joey - starring Frank Sinatra. There are many coincidences between the two. Pal takes place in a night club, PR takes place in a night club, Pal features the "Lady is a Tramp", with Frank singing it to a girl, PR features Darlkin Nikki.

The scene where Prince and Apollonia are looking in the shop window is almost lifted entirely from Pal Joey.

I posted this but apparently no one agrees with me because no one replied, but i still think i'm right. It doesn't take away from the genius of Purple Rain, but clearly was an influence.

you might get more response
because there are more there who are inclined to listen
to that other guy you speak of...

I have the album and know the track you are talking about. It it similar only in that it is an extended guitar solo to end a song - however - the solo itself is not similar.

So, to your point, I am sure there are a ton of songs with extended guitar solos to end them that you could choose from - nothing in particular special about this one.

I do really like the Frampton track though!

The solos are very similar! Style wise, similar bluesy progressions and key, similar triple note riffs, etc. And... the exact end of both songs r almost identical!

I respect ur opinion though... Peace
