Prince and his 'little pill' Somewhere in 1988, we find Prince just about to release a party/funk album. As a person he seems quite happy, he's at the top of his game. His career, well, he had a stream of great albums, both commercially as well as quality wise. He then pops a pill and hundalisilliah! He pulls the album and starts looking for direction. First religion. More so then before he seems to preach his beliefs in song and performance (lovesexy). Then he searches in his past (Graffiti Bridge). Then into what's hot at the moment (D&P, ). All his post '88 albums seem to have lost that focus to make an album that is one story from beginning to end. Personally he seems unapproachable and angry.
That one little pill seems to have made quite an impact on his life. Any thoughts?

It was December 1987. Sander said: Then he searches in his past (Graffiti Bridge).
Graffiti Bridge was already in the works before The Black Album was pulled from release. So not really reaching back, just getting back on track with a project he'd got sidelined from (TBA cancelling leading to Lovesexy, then being asked to work on the Batman soundtrack).

I stand corrected! But still, how important can one little pill be?

A pixie doez my laundry...and the universe my will.. Interesting.
Funny how sprite Prince can be..Linez like this require further investigation. I see the story. I see what Prince is trying to say that would take another lifetime of more music 2 explain...And, a musical story is also woven through the heart of all musicians, and their music...and throughout the ages as well. Life is a Tinkerbell story about a muse that is in love...very Xanaduan. Must be the planet God cumsfrum. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

More than one pill.
He is the classic example of a recovering drug addict.(I HAVE NO PROOF, BUT FITS THE BILL TO A PERFECT T) 1 .talent end person 2. experiments with drugs 3 .drifts apart from friends and loved ones 4. become thin and pale, starts acting even more erratic. 5. loose everything or just about everything. 5. if they survive, they seek salvation and god and meaning to their lives, religion lends a hand into recovery and they usually become vocal advocates to god for the rest of their lives. I Know too many friends, family and acquaintances who have gone down this exact road. it ends on a positive tho [Edited 3/17/08 20:41pm]

Just noticed you put in number 5 twice! The religion thing, no I don't think so. If you want to explore religion, then that's fine, but not when you're about to go off the deep end and cling on to religion. Same as with having children: be a stable person, then have kids. Don't have kids in the hope that it will make you happy or that it will sort you out.

Don't have kids in the hope that it will make you happy or that it will sort you out. I know exactly what you mean, I just didn't want to label religion as a whole as bad because it does help people. I'm not a religious person, but i believe in god. Whenever i deal with some of my friends family and acquaintances who have been through so much and survived, and they tell you they owe it all to "".... whomever they believe in, and seem better, who am i to tell them otherwise, especially since they are in a better place sometimes. They do on average, end up very vocally hardcore on the god tip, and on that note, set themselves up to be labeled hypocrites when they inevitably, like most people, do something unchristian-like.
