Isn't that the keyboard guy from Duran Duran? No it is a joke. On the my old bootleg of the Black Album they misquoted the lyrics to "dead on it" as "Nick Rhodes from Brooklyn." "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

But the ones from minneapolis play it like they should! Hey bellanoche! I'm always waiting for P to whip it out! Remember 'Days of wild'? Whenever he played the song, I was always hoping he took the bass instead of the guitar for the solo! "Oh oh oh, by the way I play BASSguitar"

Since we're on the subject of bass playing...
You know who plays a MEAN ASS bass? Robert Trujillo (formely of "Suicidal Tendencies" and now with "Metallica"). I know what some of you are thinking. But, check out his work on the "ST" side project band "Infectious Grooves" to hear some tight as hell funk riffs. The material is a bit old (they haven't released anything since 2000-ish), but pretty damn good. Ok, I'll crawl back in my hole now... [Edited 3/19/08 16:05pm]

I have a bass play list on my iPod and Days of Wild is on it for sure. I have also dreamed of seeing him play "What's My Name" live, "Take this bass, I can't play it." He kills me when he delivers that just before he proceeds to murder that bad boy!! perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Robert was playing some crazy slap bass w/Infectious Grooves. And he absolutely nailed his audition for Metallica (it was on their "Some Kind of Monster" documentary). They were so impressed, they asked him to join the band and gave him a $1 million advance! Who'da thought we'd be talking about Metallica on a Prince fan site? But, yes--I listen to some rock, too!

Cool. But, there are actually 4 "Infectious Grooves" CD's. If you've only listened to 2 of them, you're missing half the fun!! I strongly urge you to go onto iTunes and DL'd the rest of them. They have 3 of them on that site currently...

Well it's not Eddie Hazel or Eddie Van Halen. The truth of the matter is, Prince and Morris wrote these songs together. This song co-written by Dez Dickerson. Anyway, Prince would play all the instruments himself to start and hand over to The Time. Then, they would re-recorded the music and add vocals as well. And that's how you get a Time song or album with P's input. Everything just redone later or boosted up as some might say. Peace and be wild!

Hehe, I got another story: 11-04-1994, I believe it was the aftershow, first he plays a Larry Graham cover (Hair I believe), then proceeds to 777-9311. After this 10 minute funk workout, with just the bass, drum and vocals he takes off the bass, gives it back to Sonny and says dryly "I just wanted to make sure it worked"...

That was the case in very few instances, L.D. In MOST cases, it was P who handled all of the music and instruments, except for the drums, which was by Morris on some of the songs. I was told by Morris that Matt is doing one of the keyboard solos on Get It Up. Get It Up, for example, had been around for awhile before it saw daylight with The Time. P's band used to jam on that alot during rehearsals. P might had been considering releasing it himself. Just like "Oh Baby". That was TOTALLY recorded and mastered for P's second album. But he chose "With You" instead. So it found it's way on The Time's debut. Just in reverse with International Lover. That's a cut P wrote specifically for Morris. But then P decided to take it back and release it himself. But yeah, Dez is also singing on the hook of 777. U can hear him clearly. Same as on Wild and Loose. U can hear Dez's vocals again on the hook. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

This is what I say as well, LoDog. I know that there was a Guitar Player article on Prince's guitars, but I don't think that they've ever directly talked to Prince. They need to ask him specifically about the lead guitar playing on this song. It's been over 30 years and he's never done a solo that sounds even remotely similar to this song. To me, the solo sounds like Jesse Johnson or Dez, not Prince.

But please,...u believe what u want to believe. Truth be told, it's not that serious. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
