Until I heard Another Lonely Christmas on vinyl... ...I never realized how pronounced the echo effect is on that track.
It's as if the pain and memories are echoing in the all the empty rooms of his soul. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

There's also some white noise during the first few bars of the guitar solo that cannot be properly encoded to mp3. Keep your headphones on.

Anything I've ripped from vinyl sounds better than anything that was sourced from CD. Period. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh god - be careful with that sort of statement - there are some serious anti vinyl people on this site....VINYL ROCKS

if you listen closely you can hear the guitar "croak" at the end of the song. I've always loved that

Most definitely/Word/Co-sign/Yeah. Still got my turntable, and every Prince record (including 12" and 45s) ever released... Not 2 mention hundreds of other records by other artists. Never gonna give it up. Who knows what may happen? The industry took vinyl out, because CDs gave them 4 times the profit. They lied, and said CDs would last forever, that they sound better, etc. Now, the internet has nearly taken out CDs, and destroyed the album concept, in favor of flavour of the week singles. What will take Mp3s out? Maybe we'll all go full circle, and actually have 2 sit down and LISTEN 2 an album again. Who knows? Vinyl rules in every way, sonically. Certain artists, Prince and Stevie Wonder included, have never had their albums remastered/converted 2 CD format properly. 'Sign O' The Times' on CD sounds like crap. Put on the vinyl version... BAM. "He's a musician's musician..."

A few weeks ago, I was in my favorite indie wrecka stow picking up a few things. One of the items I had in my hand was the CD of 100 Days, 100 Nights by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. I got up to the register, saw the same album in their vinyl display, and said, "Ooooooh...you have it on vinyl!" Ron (the store owner) said, " Do you have a turntable?" I said I did. He got the vinyl out of the rack, handed it to me and said, "Do yourself a favor. You can always get the CD. This is something special." Man, was he right. That album rawks on vinyl. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's as if the pain and memories are echoing in the all the empty rooms of his soul. It reminds me of the Jimi Hendrix track 1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be).

Agreed. ALC and ATWIAD, including all the 12-inches released from that album, sound so much better on vinyl. Paisley Park in particular, for me.

What the Hell is "ALC"? Yeah, that has me stumped, too. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I was confused because Another Lonely Christmas is not from the same time period as Around the World in a Day. It's on the flip of I Would Die 4 U. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

And since it was released on the b-side to I Would Die 4 U, it was one of the later songs from the Purple Rain time and not too long before Around the World in a Day was released. I was just trying to say that, for me, the distinction of the vinyl around 1985 is partcularly noted when compared to CD.
