a piano,
it was too much or whatever, so...he got me a guitar.

I didn’t learn to play the right way, because I tuned it to a straight A chord so it was really strange. When I first started playing guitar,
I just did chords and things like that,
and l didn’t really get into soloing and all that until later,
when I started making records.

I can't think of any foremost great guitarist that stuck in my mind.
It was just solos on records, and it was just dumb stuff; I hated top forty. Everybody in the band hated it. It was what was holding us back. And we were trying to escape it. But we had to do it to make enough money to make demo tapes.

No, u were correct the first time. If I'm not mistaken, this was taken from an interview from 81 and then ran in 83 in Musician magazine. I know I have the issue buried in one of my book shelves. But I definately remember reading this in the early 80's. I remember this because I thought it sounded silly. This is during the period when P was getting compared to Jimi and he was getting busy denying the fact that Hendrix was an influence at all. Which was stupid. He was a walking contradiction. He went out of his way to echo Jimi and then throw a hissy fit when he was actually compared to Jimi. Even as a kid, that was one dig I never dug about Prince.

Yeah, one of the best decisions he ever made was to STFU for a while.
