Rumors and truth I was talking to a guy in a record shop as I purchased the last of the 'imports' they had . He said during the 80's most of his songs were about 'Brenda' from Vanity 6. Which kinda struck me as odd. He also told me that the real reason a lot the Revolution was not on songs was because P wanted to work thru the night and other folks would get tired. That sounds some what reasonable. He said Prince and Michael Jackson have actually worked on a song but Epic was not sure it would be a good idea with Princes image at the time. What part of these rumors are real and which parts are fake? Love or hate Prince (which confuses me why people who seem to dislike Prince would join this site) EVERYONE (over 30 at least) seems to have a rumor or Prince story.I was wondering how much of the 'rumors' like these help the legend of Prince.

Rumors helped Prince out, as they do with everyone, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Rumors tend to stick to those at the top of their game, big companies, market leaders and singers with a hit single. That there's still interest enough to print about Prince and his hip surgery therefor is a good thing.
Now the rumors. Yes, Brenda was his love interest. Most of his 80's song is overstating it a bit. The revolution being tired, mmh. I understood that most of the b-sides were just Prince, so that Prince got more profit of the single (75% instead of 50%). P and MJ. No, I haven't heard about this one. Just about 'Bad' being a duet between the two. But they never worked on a song.

Did her husband at the time, Roy, know about this interest? Perhaps people are confusing Brenda with Susan? ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Untrue. He also told me that the real reason a lot the Revolution was not on songs was because P wanted to work thru the night and other folks would get tired.
His impatience to work on and complete an idea before moving on to the next idea means that he was never going to wait around for the band to roll up and translate what he had in his head, when he could easily work long and irregular hours by doing it all himself. He said Prince and Michael Jackson have actually worked on a song but Epic was not sure it would be a good idea with Princes image at the time.
There are reported to have been discussions for recording together during the 80's. I've never seen anything to verify they have actually worked on a song together. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Oh well, losing to langeblue isn't a shame... Yes, Susan Moonsie was his love interest (the brunette, in any case). I can't seem to find any pictures which explain exactly who is who, so the brunette, Susan, was his girl for some time. Phfew!

I think you're both wrong.
It was Susan, but Susannah Melvoin, sister of Wendy, that was his love interest. And not all songs were written about/for Susannah. Some songs, Jack U Off, for instance, was written about Dr. Fink.

Sorry I have to disagree with you it was with Brenda, NOT Wendy's sister, her father was the lighting director for PR, it was later when he got together with Wendy's sister. Langebleu is correct.. Susan from V6 was Prince's love interest (even Vanity spoke about this) .. Susannah became his love interest @ a different time..

That's pretty close timespan. I thought his relationship with Susannah lasted several years, am I wrong?

He (apparently) dated Susan, before dating Vanity and then later in the 80s dating Susannah "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift - that's why they call it the present." -RW Emerson
