Remastering Old Prince Tracks/CDs

You think there will ever be a remastered version of the Prince classics?

I was just listening to "Moskau" by Rammstein & the next song to come on was "Alexa De Paris".

Man, the sound quality was drastically inferior to Moskau.

I know Moskau is much newer, but a lot of folks are remastering CDs.

I know Prince & Warner are enemies or something, but you think it will ever happen?

There was already a remastered 1999 album which SUCKED in many ways.

IF they remaster the Purple Rain album to the point of anything like the 1999 remaster, I wont even pay 2 cents for it.

1999 The New Master is not a remastered version of the original song. It's just a (very bad) re-working of it.

1999 (the album) has not yet been remastered (at least not officially).

I think eventually the albums (at least the albums during the Warner years) will get the remastering treatment they richly deserve, but with the way things are going at the moment, I doubt they will be released in P's lifetime.

I disagree remastered digitally YES remade into different songs NO.I remember when the remastered 1999 came out and I heard the first few lines(they chimed in the year 1999 on my local radio station blaring the remastered version) I was like "WTF is this shyt?" I turned it off and put in my ORIGINAL cd of 1999 and rangin th New Year that way for another hour hehe.

I will repeat myself hoipefully they WONT do PR like they did 1999. I see that as VERY disappointing.

Prince won't need to re-record Purple Rain (although he has already done it) like he did with the 1999 ep release.

A 2019 remaster will be of the original release because Prince will own the masters again.

He gets the masters back on 1999 in 2017, so I expect a remastered album will be ready to go then!

^ toots That's not what i meant. I have absolutely no desire to hear or buy old songs being remade. I meant that the original albums being remastered (i.e. the original sound being improved). nothing more than that is needed (apart from perhaps detailed liner notes to accompany the release.

there's certainly conflicting theories regarding the ownership of the masters.

either way, i really hope all the Warner albums do get remastered (sooner rather than later). so many other bands/artists to it to their back catalogue.

No, Warner own the masters. Thats why he had to re-record (using some bits of the original) the 1999 EP.

Masters revert back the the recording artist after 35 years. Prince should start getting his masters back from 2013, starting with For You. Then he can do what he pleases with them.

So expect him making a big song and hip breaking dance about it then.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Warners do a deal to release them to him earlier, for a fee. It depends whether the record companies get there way in trying to increase the 35 year deadline.

I see I thought that when the artist made the masters THEY already owned them. Concidering its already their material and music and such. I didnt realize they had a 35 year wait to own them.

It would not surprise me one bit for the record companies to raise/change how long the artists can actually own their masters. Laws change all the time even rules.

That is what I thought I gathered as well when I kept hearing or seeing "Prince owns his masters' on threads and other sites. That confused me.

Thanks for the insight smile

There has been rumour that he may have done a deal and got them back, but I don't believe it for a minute. Prince would be telling everyone, and getting the stuff released through NPG.

Roll on 2022.....Sign o the times remastered!

There have been no albums remastered professionally yet. The 1999 thing you referred to is Prince covering his own single song with a brand new revamped take on it with Larry Graham, etc playing.

Or did you know this?
