I remember a while ago when I first came 2 Minneapolis (i was like 12 years old). I lived on the ghetto side of NE MPLS. One of my fathers friend learned I liked Prince.

She said 2 me : "I used 2 know Prince when he was little"..she went on 2 say, "I remember I was going into the basement and Prince was spraypainting is name all over the walls...his father came out and whooped his ass".

That would've been a sight 2 c if peeps knew who he was going to be. Just thought I'd share some info from people who have lived in the ghettos with him in those times.

I Never thought he came from the Ghetto. He came from a Middle class family with Church values. Normal guy with School,Music,Friends,Church. Maybe he did spray paint in a school yard or something . Prince should have come from Brooklyn that woulda been a trip. Everybody with the rap music and the slang and all. Hanging at Parks with Friends and Beatboxes.

Yes,they did seem to allude that he couldn't get along with is it Howard Baker? He seemed to have upsets after the Breakup of his parents and then his mother re-marrying.

Prince's childhood was probably no worse than many other children whose parents divorce. There are thousands of kids who are traumatized when their parents divorce.

Prince was traumatized by his mother's remarriage to Howard Baker. I think if his mother had paid closer attention she would have seen that her son was in need of counseling services.

Perhaps things would have been different if Prince had received counseling instead of just being shuffled off to whatever relative would take him in. Something is definitely wrong in a family if a child is living in the basement of his friend's home instead of at home with his mother.

That was Terrible for him,but he did Thrive at Bernadette Anderson's so she had a Big Heart and was quite a loving person. He had alot of Freedom though. I guess he definitely felt Seperation Anxiety and Hostility. Nobody Knows the Saddness he felt or Loneliness either. Nobody knows anything really cause he doesn't Talk. He's very Closed on things and only now is he Opening up a whole lot. I always found you learned alot and become close through his Music.

I used to get spankings from my mom when I was younger. It didn't kill me or leave me emotionally scarred. I always knew she was doing it out of love. Most of the times I got spankings for doing something wreckless that could have resulted in my death and my mom spanking me with a switch (yall know what that is?) ensured I would remember that spanking and never do it again! Now that I am a mom, my father who never spanked me but didn't hardly object when my mom did, forbids me to spank my child. Grandparents are soo hypocrytical.

And yes Prince probably did live in the ghetto, although it was not projects supposedly. They looked more like brick townhouses that were square & flat had 2 floors. She showed me, at least before they evacuated the place and tore it down 2 years ago, over run by drugs and gangs and stuff i wont mention. It probably looked different when he was living there.
