![]() Holy crap, really? REALLY?! Someone clue me in, is this really that valuable a record?? If I saw that for sale for 25 bucks I doubt I'd buy it. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Hey, folks, chill ! This is obviously a very special, limited edition set, not the regular old vinyl one you can get at any flea market for a few bucks.
Not that the pale blue wrapping makes it any more special but you know there are collectors out there who pay loads of cash for rarities like this. People say that vinyl sounds warmer and truer to the original recordings; they are correct if the original recordings were analog (which most of Prince's stuff is/was).
Having said that, no single LP is worth that much money IMO. You can purchase the CD and never know what you're missing (if anything).

or - you could buy the same record for a lot less
http://cgi.ebay.com/PRINC...dZViewItem Of course, you'll need to buy your own yellow ribbon.... Now I feel stupid - looking around to buy a good used copy - then I remember I just bought some LP's a while ago - so I go take a look, and yeah I got it. Must have too busy playing the For You LP - which is really good btw. [Edited 3/11/08 16:42pm]

I dont collect prince albums because i think they are worth Money ![]() I would never pay for something like that if i could get it on CD I buy albums listen to..so this album/vinyl would be useless to me. I would rather have this on cd..in wich i do ![]() sure it be nice to have... but it wouldnt do me any good unless i sold it for $500 ![]()

To all you pretentious, emo, record-store hanging, music snobs out there: Digital is better than vinyl. Get over yourself. If you want warmth and that record-popping sound you can add it to any CD with a program like ProTools.
Tori Amos once said she rented a cathedral/church to record an album because it had a "natural reverb". That pretentious b*tch. There is probably a reverb effect in ProTools called "Pretentious Church Reverb" she could have just used for free.

The reason for this is that vinyl has a naturally weak mid range so all record players internally boost the mid and bass slightly to compensate for it.

We're fortunate to live in societies where we are free to spend our disposable income how we choose. back to topic - a copy of the rare Australian promo LP (cloth & string included) sold on ebay a couple of weeks back for a mere £120.

It depends on the quality of your system and material. For example, Pink Floyd's The Final Cut is noticeably better on vinyl (and no, there are no "pops" or other artifacts). Also, the earlier Prince material is better on vinyl. Later Prince digital material sounds pretty good - older stuff is only OK. I have some jazz that is outstanding on CD - I have even compared a CD to a SACD (same album) and the CD was better - must have been the mix. I take a more Zen approach - Vinyl is better, no doubt about it. Digital is better, no doubt about it.

Well the reason why I do have my Prince collection Pre Diamonds & Pearls on vinyl was coz I had a record player at the time, didnt like tapes and there wasnt any other options back then!!!!!

I am pretty much the same way. My first Prince cd was LoveSexy. I have had a cd player since Christmas of 87. I, too, have most of the albums on vinyl (Pre-LoveSexy). There is something about the design of the lp vs. the cd. I was really disappointed that albums with great artwork and packaging like 1999, PR, ATWIAD, Parade, and SOTT had such HORRIBLE cd packaging compared to the lp versions. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
