Prince The Story Teller...

Though I've been a Prince fan for many years now (20). His 'Storytelling' ability still strikes me as amazing.

A good author or writer, is descriptive enough in her/his work to stirke the reader's imagination. To the point where all of the illustration (if there is none) is done by the brain. Often I'm driving in my car, and I'm listening to...lets say 'Circle of Amour'. I get so caught up into visualizing what he's singing, that I have to remind myself to watch the road.

Songs like...

Circle of Amour (can't you just picture the school? and Denise raising her hand, and the 4 of them in that Circle mr.green )

When Doves Cry (Prince says that Purple Rain is a fictional film, not a Biography. Yet when he sings this song with all that emotion, isn't it hard to believe him...)

Starfish and Coffee (We all have our own version of what Cynthia Rose looks like, can't you picture them standing in line)

Blue Light (I guess this is personal to me, I've been there!)

If I Was Ur Girlfriend (this would be an excellent script for a 'Dawson's Creek' episode, or any of those WB teen thingies confuse

Sign 'O' The Times (really made/makes you look at the world...doesn't it)

Sensual Everafter (Definitely the 'Wild Card' on this list. To have 'no' lyrics, this song is brilliant in the sense that I can still picture a video for it)

The Rainbow Children (Well whether some of you like it or not. This whole damn album was a story...entertaining; to say the very least.)

Man O War (didn't you see the 'Gold Chain' hitting the floor in slow motion. I know I'm not the only one.)

Wasted Kisses (Burgundy Stockings, that he tied her up with...this song still scares me eek

To name a few wink ...

These aren't just songs that you just bobb your head and tap your foot to, they all tell a story, and I think that's why some of us believe that we actually 'know' Prince. Not because we've met him in person, or know anyone associated with him, but sometimes when you share a personal experience with somebody, you feel closer to them...especially if you can relate to them, or have been in their shoes before...

I wish I could take my list of "Songs that should have had videos' and present them to Prince. I have so many ideas. I'm so Artsy cool

You know me...just thinkin' confuse

It constantly surprises me when he paints such wonderful stories. 'Don't Play Me' and 'One Kiss At A Time,' played live during the acoustic set on Saturday, 5th October in London, just sprung to life that night. Magical...

It made the night for a g/f of mine who I had brought along as my guest. She had only heard 7 from his music so when he played that too during the acoustic set she was in heaven! Should I mention Pink Cashmere too? music

Prince did indeed play Pink Cashmere during the acoustic set. What an amazing night, especially closing the show with that mind blowing version of Joy In Repitition.

I think he read all our minds that night, even more so at the aftershow performance ... Automatic, Shake, The Work, Dolphin, Sign 'O' The Times, Sexy Dancer, Tambourine and Soul Power among so much instrumental jamming music Funky as ever, he definitely reclaimed his attitude late that night nod

We were all in disbelief, I must have danced like a white girl omfg I'm really looking forward to hearing the One Nite Alone Live 3CD set.

I agree with this thread totally! I think one of the main reasons why I like the songwriter Prince so much is his amazing ability to paint pictures in the listener's mind. Some of my favorites that evoke pictures or scenes in my head are
Gotta Stop Messin About, 17 Days, Adore ( I can just see him writing this as a poem to a lover that has him strung out!) Old Friends 4 Sale and even Venus De Milo (it brings me some good thoughts) and of course the ones previously mentioned!
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

Prince blasphemy! Another Lonely Xmas is perfect with the images in my head...thank god there was no video for it. Pokeno, daquaris, ice skating...some east coast memories. Same with 17 Days...

Listenin to some of your 'best narrations by Prince' these two popped in my head...

Dorothy Parker (Come on, I know you see Prince in the tub, with his pants on. He's silly)

and...

Rasberry Beret (I can see him slackin off at his job at the diner, and on his motorcycle, with the girl on the back, driving down by ol' Man Johnson's farm. Actually sounds like a seen out of PR)

Man there are so many to chose from. One's that havent been mentioned was Power Fantastic. I can see Prince just sing it with the Revolution behind him in a Jazz/Blues setting. Condition of The Heart is another one where the song would make the video with Prince as a narrator. Joy In Repitition is a great story. If we go to the non-released stuff, In A Large Room With No Light is perfect. Prince is really incredible isn't he?
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Joy In Repetition is a great story told by Prince and there is a longer version of the video clip that was in the movie. It should have been a video and it would have definitely hit the top of the charts.

Great thread man.

Holy River is one which does it for me. You are taken on a journey with this one. If you've ever read the explanation given by UPTOWN it really freaks you out.
