3121 is always going to be the bomb! Can you believe it was 2 years ago this month when we were all excited about the CD and then it dropped on the 21st that year? Time sure does fly! I still LOVE 3121!

I've been listening to 3121 a lot lately and had the 3121 title song on repeat many times -- too funky!

the 3121 era will always be dear to my heart. the last leg of the npgmc was still up, the purple ticket promo, and I will never ever forget 3121 Vegas and the aftershows. cool cool cool

I think 3121 is terrific...which is part of the reason I was less than thrilled with Planet Earth.

1) I'm not new, I have been fan since 1983 and counting, I like the tracks you mention, but still 1978>1995, the Warner years are my fave Prince period, imo. 3121 is a average album, 6/10 imo....

2) yeah it's a little funny/ strange my moniker is The Dance, I registered/ took this name after Prince released this song as download (you know the 1st version - in 2004),

I don't like the song/ the version on 3121, maybe I should change my moniker to something else, lol

but never mind it fits well my avatar of Prince dancing in the Cream video wink

3121 is a LOT more contemporary than Planet Earth (with the exception of Future Baby Mama which is fresh to death).

Not to say I don't love P.E. I do, there's some great songs on there. With that said, it's closer to being what you would expect from artists who have been around for 30 years. The songwriting is excellent, but it isn't cutting edge. You aren't going to hear those songs bumping in the club or get massive pop radio support.

3121 is so contemporary and cutting edge that it's astounding it didn't sell a few million more.

But with the industry in this state I'm not surprised. Hell, Will.i.Am's 'Songs About Girls' was funky, progressive with amazing songwriting and production and it struggled. Nine Inch Nails 'Year Zero' was by far the best rock record of 2007 and one of the best things Trent has ever done, yet it didn't sell much either.

Just the way it goes sometimes.

3121 needed more backing IMO. I don't know what happened, but it seems like Prince may have refused to comply with Universal on certain promotional activities. Maybe that's tied in with Tamar's album not coming out. Could be the case that Universal didn't like Tamar's album and wanted certain things changed and Prince told them where to go.

'Love' absolutely should have been a single and had a video. They should have released a double single with 'Love' and 'Lolita' and shot videos for both - ESPECIALLY after millions of people had heard 'Lolita' on American Idol.

Dude you are so on point with that. Why Love wasn't a single, and the first single at that, I will NEVER know.

My favorite track on the album. I'd've loved ( wink ) a video for that.

I still remember your great report when you came back from the 3121 listening party....your report got me all excited about that upcoming album.

Looking back, I think that 3121 is a really solid, good album, and much stronger than most other artist´s albums who have been in the biz for three decades but, that being said, it could have been much, much stronger if he had put a stronger version of Fury on it( then again, even SOTT and TGE had their flaws and could have been much stronger and rawer and rougher if he´d put on some live versions of I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man or Now, respectively) and if some of the lyrics had been a bit stronger ( I mean, despite the hate around here for Incense And Candles, I really LOVE that song but the lyrics...oh man, it´s like he´s beating about the bush all the time, the passion is somehow hindered by his self-censorship....like, I really want to bone her, but I don´t, but I could, but I can´t , but I really want to etc.etc.).
I also can´t understand why Lolita´s getting so much love, I hate that song and can´t really listen to it. I skip it every time.
But,all in all , it stands as a really strong album to this day, just flawed by some of its lyrics ( selfcensorship) and a bit of self-repeating ( like those unconvincing, formulaic screams in The Dance, a great songs that unfortunately tries too hard to sound like The Beautiful Ones revisited towards the end.

It´s one of those great, almost classic albums that make you go " Well, coul
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
