I don't see or hear many (if any) as talented as Prince around today. It could be he's a hard act to replicate.

I do however see alot of female artists with minimal musical talent and poor writing capabilities, but hey! they look good so i'd say Madonna has influenced alot of equally poor artists as her.

1-0 to Madonna.She should be proud.sigh

Yup...I'd say they're equally influential. They have their similiarities lick ...

as well as differences.

Both surely ICONS...except one will get the recognition, the other won't...

At first glance it seems laughable but in actuality its a fair question..they both have reasosn for why they are both enourmously influential...the one side though that Im thinking about is that Princes influence etc is mainly observable. Madonnas' influence as well as Prince, is out there too, but largely on a more unconscious level. Folks who are in hip hop, hard rock, and other genres have been influenced by Madonna ( and Prince) and they dont even know it.

Were you? God, you're so deep you need a drinking straw to breathe. In other words, why even bother thinking about it? Prince invented r'n'b (as it is now, not as it was in the 50's and 60's). R'n'B is currently one of the most popular music genres in the world, after hip hop. Madonna invented nothing, she inspired people with poor to non-existant voices to somehow alchemise marketing into a musicval talent.

on His Older Style&Vibe Prince.Musically Back in the day People still talk about it&Reflect on it.but overall Madonna.Prince lost Style&Vibe along time ago IMHO.Prince maintained His Music but His Sense of other things Faded out over 10 Years back plus Change.Madonna got alot of things off Prince&ran with alot of it.the big difference is that Folks still move along with Madonna Prince faded quite a while ago&I'm not talking just Sales&whatnot.Prince lost that Pulse He had with alot of People.

Madonna is more than musicianship..Madonna had a mission so to speak with her pop fluff..in other words her pop fluff was used as a way to send her message. Deep down in the so called superficialness of her hits is a solid message. Some of it may come off as superficial but nevertheless...

Influential musically=Prince.

HISTORY won't go down this way though, cause Madonna was a media whore, and Prince alienated the media.

Madonna was a celeberity who sang songs, who would have been as happy to be an actress. She didn't play an instrument.Media is happier to follow tits and ass than a moody recluse Minnesotan.

The only proof I see of Madonna's influence is Gwen Stefani's appearance. I don't hear any musicians riffing on "Open Your Heart"

I think music is too narrow when you're speaking of influencing others. In terms of things like sex appeal, being a role model, hit maker, media savvy business person, Madonna wins hands down.

It goes without saying that Prince has and still does influence musicians today. I guess Prince has influenced Madonna in some ways.

Define "special". There are a TON of people from disparate genre's who have covered Prince songs over the years. Wish I had a list, because going off the top of my head I couldn't remember them all.

you Argue until you are Blue in the Face but Madonna is still going Strong&still has Folks Debating Her Place in Music History&that Alone speaks Volumes IMHO.you can't Touch the Madonna Track Record.the Woman Plays Instruments,Composes Her Stuff&Folks still Care about Her as a Artist. Both are Important as Pop Artists&they have Moved People but Madonna is ahead nowadays in a Breeze.I'm not a Big Fan of Madonna for many Moons but you can't even Deny the Fact That Too Quote MC Hammer"U Can'T TOuch Her".

Special? As the person who's saying important people cover Prince, that's up to you. But you say you can't.

But I'll take a stab at it. Alicia Keyes? not special. D'angelo? not special. Jordan Knight? not special. Ginuwine? not special. Eve? not special.

I said I couldn't give a list because I wouldn't remember them all. All you're naming are people who have a hype machine behind them. It's well known that Prince is covered by a slew of people yesterday and today, for those who have kept up with such a thing.

I agree with others on thsi point...

Musically - Prince had the greater influence.

Culturally - Madonna had the greater impact.

Mistermaxx

You are talking about popularity and star power absolutely Madonna hands down!!! Prince is a muscician first and foremost and the sounds and musical styles he developed has
cemented his place in history as a musician. Besides it is a crazy question!!! Apples and Oranges. You can only compare Madonna with Prince is when you are talking about star power. Prince deserves to be compared with Hendrix, Clapton, Sly, James not no fucking Madonna!!!
