I love the flange effects he put on the highhats or whatever...

Or the panned delay effects:

I don't know what he's even doing on "If I Was Your Girlfriend"; that beat is great

Right now, I think 7779311 is pretty cool in that field. But I need to play some more stuff later and really pay attention. 777... was just the first I think of

"When 2 R In Love"
Somehow, in the hands of anyone else besides Prince, the same pattern on the Linndrum wouldn't sound as slinky. I mean you can practically see the writhing. [Edited 3/6/08 21:04pm]

Interesting lists...
Mine: Get Off=New Power Generation Maxi-Single Gett Off=original version released to radio Good Love=I was going crazy with the programmed keyboard and drum machine effects. Batdance=original version and Vicki Vale mix=Insane I've said it a thousand times... "He doesn't make music like that anymore."

But "Black Sweat" was pretty damn recent. I think that showed he can still do drums like that when he wants to.

Absolutely DITTO on Make-Up. Any stop and start beat is uniquely him, though.

Scandalous Cheek, you totally get it. "Future Baby Mama" had to be on here too. The aspect of drum programming is one of my main personal draws for listening to Prince. And he is VERY influential to other drum programmers.

"Sugar Walls" (Sheena Easton)... from the beginning that starts with no snares or claps... then it has the Linn clap! and some extra toms like dududududu and the sucking sound into the snare
