Why would Prince sing into the barrel of a gun-(a mic) I've never understood why Prince would sing into the barrel of a gun (or a mic that was a gun and sing into the barrel of the gun)???? What was the meaning behind that?????

He once said in an interview (I believe) that the positivity of his music, of his lyrics, negated the negativity of the gun. Something like that anyway.

i saw a video odf him singing "HEAD" great live version by the way, but he was singing on some parts like he was giving head to the mic, not a pretty sight to me,

Prince explanation: The music is his weapon.
Cynical explanation: Prince's attempt to look a little cooler with a gangsta rap rub-off. (How a gun mic is gonna negate assless pants, I have no idea).

at the time when he used to do that, i thought it was a message to gangsters to shoot music instead of bullets. in other words, music is mo' powerful than war

He wanted to appear "Bad" like Michael Jacksons song!? I don't like it. Especially when he points it at you [Edited 3/6/08 5:35am]

His "dancers" told him it was "gangta" (glam)...and he fell for it LOL. They are still laughing about the Violet The Organgrinder video....
Lots of stuff in the 90s he did seemed to be a reaction to Hip Hop. Sad really.

ok, wow... I thought it might b a deep answer. Instead it's sort of a guess. I just thought if your gonna sing into a mic that looks like a gun, you might wanna tell somebody why or have some kind of explanation. Maybe that's it...."nobody owes anyone any explanations".....It just sorta concerns me though...I hate guns of any kind. I used to work at a bank, squirtguns weren't even allowed in. It must have stuck w/me

Emancipation outfit = Hip Hop jacket over lime green crushed velvet gheyness. I remember somebody asking that on NPGMC (it might have still been called L41A at that time) why use such a violent symbol. The stupid ass answer back (not verbatim) read something vaguely like "The words of peace coming from the mic nullify the gun's violence" or something like that. It. was. cringe. worthy. Prince rocks Camille. But Tupac, he ain't.

which do you guys find more offensive? The '86 live version of Head and humping the mic-stand was legend. He gave the mic-stand a good old polish As for 'Why would Prince sing into the barrel of a gun?' well damn, ain't it obvious - mo'fo was payin' respect to his idol, Kurt Cobain. When he released New Power Soul, many could be heard chanting in unison: "Pull the trigger mutha-fucka, pull the trigger!!!" . [Edited 3/10/08 22:08pm]
