Prince is all about the $$$$$ at this point...
I can't say I blame him...He's done the ARTIST thing to death... Maybe the $$$$$ thing is cooler at this point than the Art trip.. He's been all about the business for quite some time tho'

I'm not going to lie, he needs to drop this Greatest Hits stuff. It's getting "long in the tooth", for real. He needs to start focusing more in newer music and not just shit from 1986. Seriously, he needs to change his game QUICK. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

As much as i totally agree, i think those good old days are gone. Now it's all about $$$ and celebrity. He's now just a greatest hits performer, forevermore cruising off his past - the hunger and sparkle have gone. Sadly, these are the Hef Years... . [Edited 3/4/08 15:52pm]

Let's give Prince a break. None of us are pissed at Stevie Wonder not making anymore New groundbreaking Albums or performing new songs on Tours anymore. He's almost 50 years old now. What else should we expect from him?
Was James Brown doing any NEW Groundbreaking songs in his 40s/50s while on Tour? Was Stevie Wonder doing any NEW Groundbreaking songs in his 40s/50s while on Tour? Were The Rolling Stones doing any NEW Groundbreaking songs in his 40s/50s while on Tour? Answer to all of these questions....No. Prince is at the age now where is enjoying the fruits of his Labor. Doesn't he have the right to do so? He's given us more than enough material to dig through without getting too bored.

Yup, considering how big his catalog is, he needs to stop singing his '80s hits at least and focus on his 90s and this decades album output. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
"We had fun, didn't we?" -Prince (1958-2016) 4ever in my life

he's just trying to milk his back catalogue so that he eventually has the moolah to buy back his masters.
makes sense to me. | |

makes sense to me. I agree. That's why he's been trying to charge people ridiculous prices for some of his concerts, last year. I bet Warner Brothers won't sell his catalogue back to him, for less than $200 million. I say $200 million, because Prince used to have a $100 million contract with them. Those bastards would, at least, charge that much.

and a "a bad taste in people's mouths when they get lied to year after year...a better approach would be..simply to advertise PRINCE LIVE singing all his hits !
that way..nobody will feel like an ass going to see him and paying hard earned money to hear his HITS "AGAIN" for the last time since 2004 ! sexxydancer said: But there's joy in repetition.

Do you REALLY feel lied to when someone at Prince's marketing department says that the hits were being played for "the last time"??? That's really sad if you feel that way. I think the internet has ruined the element of suprise for touring musicians. Because as soon as the concert ends, someone is on their computer running down the entire set-list. So of course people are gonna get bored if they read the same songs over & over again. It's not like he's been playing "hits shows" for a decade. He's only been doing them for North American & European audiences. His fans in London didn't get to see him play those songs "for the last time" in 2004. The majority of people who go to see Prince want to hear him play songs like Let's Go Crazy, Kiss, and Purple Rain for the 500th time!!! During the ONA tour there were a lot of people upset at the fact that he didn't play those songs. Tickets to those shows were a lot more expensive than the tickets for these current arena shows. So people who paid more hard earned money than they did in 2004 were upset that they paid all that money for tickets, and he didn't any songs they reconized!!! He still aftershows so the hardcore fans can hear him do a 22 minute version of Empty Room. He plays those aftershows for people like us. He also plays those big arena shows for the other 90% of people who go see Prince. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

HE HAS WITH HIS OWN MOUTH...ON NATIONAL TELEVISION STATED THAT HE WAS GOING TO MISS PLAYING PURPLE RAIN SINCE THE MUSICOLOGY TOUR WOULD BE THE LAST TIME HE PLAYED IT !!!!! Get your facts straight ! Im just sorry for all the people that went to London and will be going to Ireland to see Mr "Hits for the last time" man ! REAL fans at this point know..If the Playboy mansion offered prince 20 million dollars to play a party..jehovah would have to go in the closet for the night ! I saw him say that he was gonna miss playing Purple Rain on Leno. I also read in a magazine article that it was gonna be the last time playing the hits "for a while". So it seems that he left the door open to play those songs. As far as being sorry for the London fans that paid to see him, and now he's performing in Ireland. My guess would be that most Irish fans didn't see him in London. The same with people in Argentina, and Tokyo. Musicians have had "retirement" tours for as long as I can remember. How many times have The Rolling Stones and Cher toured saying "for the last time"??? It's obvious that people change their mind about retirement, alot. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

No, I'd rather hear the hits & more recognizable tunes. love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game

As someone who went from ireland to london to see him i don't mind one bit going again esp as croke park is a fab outdoor stadium which is always good for a greatest hits revisit and nothing like the point which is where he played last time in ireland.

Yeah, but he did tours without his hits and they didn't sell that well. The customer is always right. I agree that some of his "lesser" songs would be great to hear. I think he needs to find a happy medium as far as what songs he performs. I'm not a big fan of the song Purple Rain anymore but I would feel a little cheated if dude didn't play it at his show. Shake it til ya make it

i dont mind hearing the hits but i have to admit i love the aftershows more because of the unusual songs that get played With Love there is no Death

I dont have ANY ISSUES with hearing all Hits shows..I prefer them in fact..(seeing that these days Im probably always going to bring someone that im trying to turn on to Prince for the first time...

I'd love 2 hear P do some "new" music but would that sell his concerts out or would he had high #'s with it. The One Nite Alone shows were not based on The Hits. Does any1 know how that tour went, by the way Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
