The Dance was haunting and powerful to me. I played it to death!

Hmm, I had to look them both up. I'm not able to recognise a Prince song by means of the title anymore.
I like the "pain" in The Dance. The melody reminds me somewhat of Te amo corazon, smooth, nice for the ears. I find the Word not bad but it lacks excitement (kinda dull). I get no emotions with that one. I like the refrain part with the spiders. "my English sucks" edit [Edited 3/29/08 14:29pm] | |

i liked The Dance when it was first released through the npgmc on The Chocolate Invasion. that version is lightyears better than the new overdone kitschy song he turned it into. bad move imo. hah Haaaah!!! Here is my opinion on both versions of the Dance. I like the older version in that it is not a big musical production. I always thought the piano interlude on the 3121 version sounded a bit like Liberace. I was hoping a radio edit version would be made that would just take that bit out. 
But I do like Prince's voice better in the newer version. He used more talking in his natural voice, the whisperings... the screams. Just seemed more passionate. Funny how the song is the same but sung differently, I get a different story. Old version: Prince is tired of the hurt he feels with old love and he sends her away telling her let's just end this. New version: Prince loves the woman and wants more. She is not in love anymore but wants to continue friendship "let's be friends" and he is saying... Ive always rated The Dance, the best from quite a lame album. And to have plucked it up and redone the track for 3121, proves to me that he was desperately seeking something for the album to bring it up to scratch. It is a highlight.
Is it only me who actually likes the newer version better than the old? I like to think of the first version as a 'rough diamond', I know people like the 'demo' sound, but I really like what he done to it. | |
