I've always wondered why Prince's mother in the movie was played by a woman who wasn't black. We all know his mom is black and wonder if his mom was offended by being played by a white woman? Did he want people to think that he was mixed race. Was his father in real life violent towards his mother? Or was that to make the story more dramatic?

The entire movie was fiction. It wasn't his biography. All the characters were just part of a storyline.

Plenty of mixed raced actors with 2 black parents in movies. I say as long as the look on screen is believable there's no problem. Ben Kingsley played Gandhi, remember.

Both of Prince's parents were of mixed heritage, and his Mom was very light skinned... The actress in Purple Rain wasn't exactly "white".

i don't mean to be rude at all, but i don't understand this ongoing confusion over us light-skinned folks.
