I remember vividly when P was actually doing this. I remember the day I bought the album Dirty Mind and saw P on the cover. I was like "whoa...dang..I wonder what is Prince doing?" Dig me now, I was already listenting to Bowie, Iggy, New York Dolls, and Glam music in general. Huge fan of KISS. So even though I was a kid, not even 12, I was very much up on all of that. Had all of those albums already. So I was used to shock rock. By then, amongst others, I had already seen KISS and Parliament live. I knew P appeared to be nude on his second album cover. Front and back covers. But he looked different on the cover of Dirty Mind. This was street punk done by a black dude. Because of that, I dug it. Cuz it was different. Never did I question P's sexuality. The way he acted in his videos from his second album, he was doing what alot of other white teen idols would do in the late 70's. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garret,...they were no different than P. Girls ate that shit up. The more feminine, the better. P roughend up his image by Dirty Mind but he was out to shock at the same time. My first experience in seeing P live was to come from this tour. I was going to see Rick James and P was opening for him. But the week of the concert, I had gotten really sick and missed a whole week of school. So my mother wasn't going to let me go to the concert that Friday night because I was still sick and I had missed that whole week. I was to go with my older cousin who was 18 at that time. I told him to take my ticket and give it to his girlfriend. So they went. He described to me how the audience responded to P. He said he actually saw brothers getting up and walking out during P's set. Mainly cuz of the way he was dressed. They couldn't fuck with it.

Nice pic, ehuffnsd!! I love the 'Dirty Mind' outfits, very sexy and pushing the boundries back then. I like most of the outfits Prince has worn over the decades - the Purple Rain ruffles and lace, The Lovesexy polkadot phase (and when everyone in the band had their own names on their trouser legs/ sleeves)and even the experimental suits he had made in the 90s that came in every colour imaginable! I like how he wears suits nowadays which are sharp and refined (but still edgy and 'Prince-esque').
The only outfts I HATED seeing him in are those huge baggy jumpers/ sweaters (usually cream coloured) he started wearing from the Emancipation period.
