Dance Electric Appreciation! Absolutely loving this at the moment...it's been in my head for days! Shame P didn't release this himself although Andre Cymone's version is almost identical albeit less than 11 minutes long!

The album, at least, shouldn't be hard to find on vinyl, dunno about the 45 though. As far as I know, there is no CD issue of A.C. available at the moment. [Edited 3/4/08 4:39am] It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Great tune. Prince's backing vox are still on Andre's cut. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think it displays some of his best rhythm guitar playing ever. There's a break at 5:43 where the guitar does all the great things - popping strings, chicken scratches, syncopation. I love it. www.beaurocks.com Trees are made of WOOD!

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Meh..I didnt like that one and was glad it wasnt on the album The Dance Electric still sounds like no other song ever made. That what was great about P in his prime ..making unique beats, followed by unique guitar and an inspiration all on its own. Not that he is not good anymore, but like P already said, his only competition is himself. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I remember back in 1983 in Black Beat magazine, there was an article about P's new album that actually listed some tracks that were going to be on his follow-up to the 1999 album. "The Dance Electric" was mentioned. I've mentioned this several times on this site. I know SoulAlive also remembers seeing this article. This album could very well be the "in between" album P spoke about in his 85 Rolling Stone interview. He said he had an album that was recorded between the 1999 album and the Purple Rain album. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Red Light was originally cut in mid 1982. P wanted it for his 1999 album but Andre told him "Nah, that's cool." Since learning that, that's why I believe Dre picked that song to be the b-side to Dance Electric. A song written by P. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. He was saying how easy it would have been to have released the follow-up album to "1999" and everyone would have loved it. I thought to myself...."Well bitch, what's the damn problem? Why isn't that album released right now instead of this artsy/fartsy shit that is pissing everyone off?" That was when I first realized that Prince didn't quite have it all upstairs. Actually he was talking about how it would have been to follow up Purple Rain. If he had opened it up with the same guitar solo at the end of Lets Go Crazy but in a different key. But in that same article, he did mention the album after 1999 and before Purple rain was in finished and in the can. But I know what you're saying, Vain.
