I didn't use Prince's weakest tracks, I selected his most recent funky efforts. Prince's funk just isn't dirty and gritty like it used to be. Maybe it's something to do with his age, combined with his religion... I'm talking about the kind of Prince who sang Head or Sexuality. I guess he's just not in that place in his life anymore.

But his recent efforts at funk just don't have that same bite. Whereas Van Hunt's new album in many respects reminds me of Prince's early funk music. It's raw, impish and oozing with sexuality.

Tracks like Musicology or PFUnk sound like a middle-aged man knocking out a lazy pastiche of his old record collection because he has nothing left to prove.

Van Hunt on the other hand, has EVERYTHING to prove and you can hear it in his music.

"When doves cry" is a wonderful song, but the writing isn´t groundbreaking actually. What´s groundbreaking about it is the production.
Have you heard the song "What can i say" from Van Hunt? That is suberb songwriting. Wheter you relate to it or not, technically speaking this is songwriting at its best.
Calling Van hunt a cock knocker says a lot more about yourself than it does about Van Hunt or in fact anybody else.

I get tired of Prince does not do this or that the way the flavor of the month does because of none of the flavors can make it past 3 CD's.
