THE PART WHERE APPOLLONIA JOINS MORRIS GROUP AND THEY'RE PRACTICING AND PRINCE DRIVES BY AND HE'S LOOKING AT THE WAREHOUSE AND HE LOOKS PISSED (AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS I MIGHT ADD) WELL IN THE TRAILER HE GOES IN THE PLACE AND ENDS UP PUNCHING SOME GUY IN THE FACE AND THEN PRINCE GRABS APOLLONIA HAND AND TRIES TO PULL HER OUTTA THERE BUT I DON'T THINK SHE WENT CUZ THE NEXT CLIP SHOWS HIM WALKING OUT BY HIMSELF AND HE LOOKS PISSED AGAIN. OOHHH WWEEE! WHEN I SAW THAT I WAS YELLING AT THE TV "OH MY GOD-WHERE DID THIS STUFF COME FROM AND WHY WAS IT NOT IN THE MOVIE!" DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SCOUP ABOUT THIS FOOTAGE?

I've been trying to figure this one out for the longest. I saw the trailer a while ago & thought "hey, wait a sec, that's not in the movie!". I wonder myself what happened to the extra scenes. And if there were some, wouldn't it be ideal to have them on the DVD version?

Like Supernova said some scenes were left on the cutting
room floor. Way back before it's relase there were
rumors stating certain scenes had to be cut out or
the movie would get like an NC-17 rating. (There was a
rape scene & the sex scenes in the movie were
originally more detailed)
In my opinion too many scenes were cut out of the
movie beacuse some scenes in the finished product
have questionable loose ends.

There is video tape which has been doing the rounds for years, a slightly longer - by approximately 5 minutes - rough edition of 'Purple Rain' with all the deleted scenes mentioned above (Prince punching Jellybean's lights out, etc) included, only this version is missing some incidental background music which had not yet been put in the mix.

You can get it if you know the right people.

But listen I don't have that tape. I would like to Know if he really shot the Scene where he Rapes in a sense well Rough Sex with Appolonia? I am sure there were more Graphic scenes from the Barn with Appolonia on top of him,but did he actually film all the Sex parts and the Part with the Earring and what his mother supposedly said to him or what he thought? Jellybean and him fought when he went to see Vanity6 Reherse. I always thought about these scenes as they said Prince wrote them in the Script. Is that really true? So he wanted it more Graphic huh? Well,it would have been Sooo Ahead of it's time but he could show it now with what Halle Berry and Billy Bob showed as a Sex Scene. Times have very Much Changed. I Hate Tipper Gore!

You know what, now I've changed my mind. I probably shouldn't anticipate those scenes simply because they might be too much to stomach. I'll just leave the finished product of "Purple Rain" the way it is.

I know of 2 other scenes that were not in the movie.

I remember the first scene from years ago. I was in my local Wal-Mart and they were running a video tape loop of upcoming VHS movie releases (I told you it was a long time ago). On that tape was a promo for Purple Rain and I remember seeing one scene where Morris and Jerome were walking down the streets in MSP in the daytime. The camera panned to an ambulance with its seirens on speeding down the street. The camera panned back to Jerome and Morris who stopped walking and they looked at each other. The look on their faces was something along the lines of "oh shit".

The second scene was of Prince and Boob-a-llonia having sex during the "Purple Rain". I suppose that this is what the title of the movie and the song is supposed to represent. I remember reading somewhere that the scene was cut because it was too steamy.

The video "When Doves Cry" includes a small snippet of Morris and Apollonia running across a front yard (I think), and I don't remember ever seeing this in the movie.

Did Albert Magnoli write it or did Prince? It was very Wild. Seems like Prince wrote it. That is the extra scenes. He was actually quite PORNOGRAPHIC in his DESIRES!

I thought Prince and William Blinn worked on it originally, and then it was totally reworked when Blinn dropped out and Albert Magnoli was picked as director.

Check out my link above -- it includes the deleted scenes spoken about in this thread. At one point, the Kid's mom even calls him Skipper and says, "you're so pretty... you coulda been a girl." I'm glad they left that stuff out. But I wish Vanity would've been around long enough to do the movie. I always try to imagine her in that role... "Vanity, don't I make you happy... Don't you like the way we are?" Guess not.

When I said "When Doves Cry" video -- I think it's actually the "Let's Go Crazy" video that includes a piece of that one deleted scene.

I remember in early 1984,there was a report that 'Purple Rain' was gonna get an X rating becaue some of the scenes were too explicit.I also remember a classmate of mine insisting that she had actually seen the un-cut,uncensored version of this film!! I always assumed that she was lying.I asked her what happens in it,and all she said was "Fucking,fucking and more fucking"

If you watch The Time's "Jungle Love" video,you will see a few scenes that were cut from the movie.Also,I do remember a scene in the trailer where Prince punched Jellybean.

Morris is enraged--

Man -- why don't you just do
the walk?

Prince glares at him, cups his genitals-

Why don't you kiss the one-
eyed snake?

The Band lets out a condescending GROAN

Jellybean!

Jellybean, 6'4", 210 pounds, steps from
behind the drums, moves up behind Prince-

He lunges, grabs Vanity again -- she

Jellybean lurches, grabs Prince in a

Prince kicks at him wildly--

JELLYBEAN
(enraged)
Fucker!!

He twists Prince's head backwards,
SMASHES his body to the ground--

JELLYBEAN
Stay still, motherfucker!!

But Prince continues fighting him with
everything he's got! Jellybean is
astonished--

JELLYBEAN
Shit!!

He twists Prince's neck savagely,
SMASHES! his legs to the floor again and
again--

JELLYBEAN

Vanity is crying--

VANITY
Jellybean, please...

Prince drops to his hands and knees exhausted. Everybody is
frozen now -- scared. The Girls are crying, the incedent
has already gone too far...



Jellybean settles his weight on Prince,

to break the resistance he alone can
feel. Prince remains silent, the anger
coursing through his body in tremors--

The Guys surround them, grabbing
Prince's arms, legs, and feet. He's
like a trapped animal now--

Lift him.

VANITY
(crying)
Don't hurt him ...

They pick him up, move him toward the
door. He resists them slightly, his
body lurching in fit and starts.
Suddenly he breaks free, faces them with
his back to he door. But the Band
Members surround him, their wills
united, the obviousness of the situation
apparent to all.

He searches for Vanity's eyes, but she
can't face him and walks away. Anger
again surges in his veins. He cuts out
the door, SLAMS it behind him.



There is alot of stuff in the original script that was left out. I don't know how much of it was filmed. I know the love scene in the barn was filmed and so was the scene of Prince's mom (who should have been Black) walking off with two girlfriends, talking about going out to have some fun. I'll Never understand the way Mom was almost Portrayed as a Hooker type or Derelict cause it was like she was a Woman on the street with other ladies. I do Believe they were put in a Cop Lock-up or something. So really this movie is absolutely Fiction. I don't think Prince's Mom was this way. Once again it was a MOVIE! Fictional...

I have that original script too! It even includes a scene where Prince and The Revolution are performing the song "G-Spot" (before it was replaced with "Computer Blue") and another scene where they are performing "Electric Intercourse" (before it was replaced with "The Beautiful Ones").And some of the sex scenes with Vanity were very,very,VERY explicit.

I often wonder how the movie would have been if they had used this early script,and if Vanity remained in the cast.

God David well if he Released it now and he could well it would be Amazing. Of Course well Vanity is no longer she is Religious not Nasty. But he could Release this stuff if he had the original Cut like they now have Director's Cuts. If it was extremely Sexual in Nature it could get an NC-17 so he could have it his way. He could release everything all his Music you know Rough,Dirty...Whatever. He could Release his Photos...He could Release his Videos...Whatever he wants...Times have Changed and things are more OPEN and HONEST and not Such a BIGGIE! From what I understand,Vanity left the production before filming began in November 1983.But I wonder if these same scenes were filmed with Apollonia? In early 1984 (after the movie was completed),MTV news reported that it would receive an "X" rating because of explicit scenes.
