Unlike a 'has been' Prince is still relevant and able to produce new music and draw a crowd.
I do however agree with Desire2006 on one thing. I would like to see Prince return to his roots in Minneapolis instead of living in fake Hollywood. Hollywood seems like such a disaster area for stars. While I believe that LA or Vegas are good places for a star to work and get the necessary exposure, I don't think anyone can stay grounded there for a long period of time. I wonder what keeps him away from Minneapolis for such a long time. He always seemed so happy there and never seemed to have the desire to live anywhere else. Maybe he doesn't go back because there are too many bad memories; both his marriages ended in divorce there and there is not much left of his family. Who knows, maybe it is a broken heart that keeps him away from home and now he's looking for a new one elsewhere. I just hope wherever he decides to settle down he will find love and happiness. love the one who is Love!

Yea cause Prince obviously hasn't got a mind of his own and he does everything Larry tells him to do. No way Prince could've been interesting in the JW faith on his own, no no, it musta been Larry who brainwashed him into asking Larry about the faith, yessir! You twat. His "enigma" only applies to the media.
Prince has pretty much constantly been on tour, and has always made appearances (albeit unpredictably) on various TV shows/celebrity circuits. He just had one of his highest-profile years to date, and he just won a Grammy. If you want to get technical: your argument about celebrities, Oscar bashes, birthday parties should really read "sell-out" and not "has-been". A "has-been" would not have the box-office draw or celebrity attraction that Prince does. [Edited 2/24/08 3:53am]

Now , i dont consider the Beatles ever becoming has-beens, but thats pretty low in what you'll do for money in my book. When he stoops to that level then I'll completly agree with you. considering who owns publishing rights to the catalog, blame can't be placed on the Beatles for that happening... same thing happened with "Little Red Corvette"...it ended up in a Chevrolet commercial... Also I hear Prince music being used all the time on thing like the Today Show, like ALL the time. AND many popular prime time TV shows.

I really miss the good old days where he was the ultimate enigma, who had pure Spiritual mystique and Angelic Heavenly Aura!! And he made the music 2 go with it!! Pure, raw, unadulterated Spiritual funk and rock that was totally unmatched by any other!! Now 2 me, he is anything but Heavenly and Spiritual!! I used 2 think he was one of Gods Angels sent 2 earth 2 give us all enjoyment and at the same time show us a way 2 live, both spiritually and sexually!! Now, all he wants 2 do is perform at celeb and corporate events like birthday parties, Oscar bashes, and award shows and mix with celebs who have multimillion dollar bank accounts and immerse himself totally in with Hollywood!! And also think up ways of ripping his fans off with sub-standard UNspiritual music!! I really wish he would leave all that behind and turn his back on all that shit and return back 2 Minneapolis, and recluse himself off and get back 2 his roots, spiritually, sexually and musically and reconnect back with all things Heavenly and Godly!!!! But, alas, I dont think that will ever happen!! I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY DO MISS U PRINCE!!!!!

I think this all depends on what ones definition of "has been" is...
somebody posted earlier on in this thread that to the general public he is a has been...I think that's a fair assessment... there's been lots of talk about selling out shows...I saw Van Halen live two weeks ago...sold out show, as are most on the tour...but they certainly aren't on anybodys radar as relevant right now... so, it's fair to say that the term "has been" is subjective"... I feel that Prince is a better live act now than he is a recording artist...I certainly don't mean that in any sort of disregard to him or his career...simply stated, I kinda think that Prince continues to release new music in order to stay relevant, when he'd be better served to not do so... ...just an opinion folks, don't call in the dogs just yet... I think he would be better served continuing to just perform live and make appearances...there's enough of his music already out there, both official and bootleg, that he will remain relevant to true music fans for years to come...in some ways (again, just my opinion) each new album tends to tarnish his "genius"... WOW...It's definately in my top 8 CD's...goes to show how Prince affects people so drastically differently...give it a few more years (I'll wait for your thread about how you slept on it the first time around). Mayebelle didn't even list my favorite songs on the CD, The One U Wanna C and All The Midnights In The World This CD is an instant classic. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Just look how many members there are on this site, not to mention Housequake and other sites. I haven't seen any other old school artist with as many current fans as Prince has except maybe Michael Jackson. Is he a has-been with the new current shit hop generation in general? Well, who gives a damn? They have no taste anyway. They don't even have the good sense to listen to actual music so naturally, they aren't going to like Prince.

Never, at least not in my eyes. Prince is much too influential and has had too much of an impact to ever be irrelevant. I think that as long as there's music in this world, Prince will always be relevant in some way, shape or form. "A "has-been" would not have the box-office draw or celebrity attraction that Prince does."
I have only written this statment a million times. Has beens generate no interest from the public. People are interested in seeing Prince perform. If he is a has been I guess the Rolling Stones and Bruce are has beens as well. ----- Se7en said: His "enigma" only applies to the media.

Musically without a doubt he seems to have chosen to take the safe route. His last 3 CD's were pleaseant listens rather than challenging experiences [although i still love the 3121 CD]. It is annoying on the basis that I think we all know he has it well within him to challenge and make amazing records yet he makes poor choices and plays safe. What is nice is that new younger bands such as Hot Chip, Goldfrapp etc are referencing him as an influence. Musically his Cds seem to now serve as adverts for upcomming live gigs rather than anything meaningful and artistic.
I will say that there is no way you can describe him as a 'has been' when it comes to live performances, as a business person [despite some very dodgy marketing decsions!] and of course as a musician. The trouble with P is that with other so called 'ledgends' i.e. Stevie, Elton, Macca, etc you accept that they had a golden period and everything that has followed after is forgiveable. However in our man's case he's so damn talented and shows how great he is live we known and he knows that on record he can do so much more. Shame really.

Prince is most certainly NOT a "HAS BEEN"! Any entertainer that can hold my attention for practically my entire life deserves to be called...multifaceted, remarkably vibrant, incredibly prolific, and very gifted!! He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...
