Not the best album to me, but definitely in the top 5. nod

It should be common knowledge in orgland that "Purple Rain" will forever be the holy grail. But mad props to "Parade" for Prince and the Revolution's adventurous and excitingly creative musical statement of purpose. The likes of which we do not see in popular music today (shamefully).

Emancipation? (a previous orger stated) confuse lol

I think, there's not one 'holy grail', but rather a holy trinity, consisting of Purple Rain, 1999 and Sign O' The Times smile

And yea, Emancipation, what the...?!?! whofarted

lol
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I wish he'd do more lately to break from some of the musical conformity, industry standard-digital-too-perfect-sounding noise.

Amen to that!

I'd even argue that PLANET EARTH has some feel of PARADE in it's gentleness, deceiving simplicity.. (but in my opinion weighed down by poor lyrics, standard rap/r/b formats, and unoriginal arrangements.)

he generally does albums in 2s
with the 2nd album being an improvement of the 1st
so here's hoping Planet Earth is followed by something greater...

Listening to this album now, it occurs to me that this is probably his best album ever.

While Around the world in a day was a Fuck You for people who thought he 'sold out' with Purple Rain, and while Sign of the Times almost sounds like an apology to the music critics, Parade still shows a playfullness and quirkienss that is truelly delightfull!

Parade sounds like an 'accident', but somehow it captures the brilliance of Prince in the best way.

I am always reminded of Rolling Stones' 4-star rating for this album. The quote that sticks in my head is something like, "The songs contain orchestration that belies years of musical training".

Truer words were never spoken....errrrr, written. Well, if they were dictated, then I guess they were spoken after all.

Carry on.

I mean, don't get me wrong, Emancipation was cool. I'll even say it was one of his better albums from the 90's. But really, you can't rank it with his 80's masterpieces. wink

It's not his absolute best album but it's my favorite. I can play it from start to finish and never skip a track. To me it's Prince's "happiest" album. He sounds so energized and alive throughout the whole thing, even on Sometimes it Snows in April." I always feel good once I'm done listening to the CD.

Parade ROCKS!!!!!

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
