if anyone wants to enjoy this phrase by listening to it or writing it, you will need my permission and you must pay me.

if you steal any of my work i will be angry. you wouldnt like it when Stereo gets angry.

i will not see the connection between stealing your work and why i feel so angry about you stealing mine.

i dont believe in karma, nor do i believe that who lives on the outside, is who lives on the inside.

i am completely separate from everyone and nothing i do or say is connected to what comes back to me.

when something unfair happens to me, i am a victim only.

when something unfair happens to others, i pity their weakness and their inability to shake it off.

i cant stand tight-asses in my place. they should be grateful.

i repeat: dont make Stereo angry. you wouldnt like it when Stereo gets angry.

Who's Eddie Hazel?

Ex (in every way) Funkadelic guitarist, he had a solo album in the late 70's, 'Game, Dames and Guitar Thangs' which is pretty decent. The 2nd cut has a nice guitar intro which is the EXACT same melody as Do Me Baby!

Yes. You can listen to the track here :
http://www.youtube.com/wa...4LHBr49GDY

And there are more cases where Prince has copied other artists work. Just compare the chorus of "My medallion" with "Spill the wine" from Eric Burdon & War. It's exactly the same. Ect., etc., ....

OMG!!! eek THAT HURTS!!! ("Maggot Brain" is only one of my most favorite songs on the planet, suitable to be played at my funeral - in the same vein as "Purple Rain", only completely instrumental). Check out Funkadelics' "Hardcore Jollies" if you want to learn more.

Did you ever hear Miko's extended Do Me Baby intro on the Nude Tour? I think he was definitely giving a nod back to Eddie; some of his licks are straight up copies from Eddie's track!

Yes...Frantic Moment is actually the best cut on that album.

question

Planet Earth alone has two examples - you'd be in serious denial if you didn't note the striking similarities between "Guitar" & The Edge's playing on U2's "I Will Follow." "Planet Earth" lifts a bit from the Duran Duran track of the same name. "Peach" nicked a bit from a ZZ Top track...it goes on & on from there. And that's not even counting work he didn't credit his own former bandmates for.

Which ZZ Top song?

Also, Planet Earth lifts a few ideas/lines from Stevie Wonder's song "Can't Imagine Love Without You" from 2005's A TIME TO LOVE. I seem to remember the line was "Can you picture Mother Earth in the palm of your hand?"
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

The main guitar riff from "Kiss" is also the riff from "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag".

But the horn riff from "Cold Sweat" also rips off Miles Davis' "So What"

I think the great thing about music is that it inspires people to completely rip off each other!!!

i always find this an interesting subject with anyone, because almost everyone has copied something in various forms of art. whether they do it purposefully or not is debatable.

the other debatable thing is where the line is drawn - when does something stop being "inspired by" and become plagiarism? obviously if it's a blatant copy then it's plagiarism; but i've seen instances of similarities being called plagiarism and probably rightfully so. i've also seen instances of commonalities between two songs being called that in a case where i see the two as completely separate songs, one perhaps inspired by the other, but still they stand apart.

so has he? nod but the number of songs and to what extent will always be anyone's guess. nor can i put it as a mark against him or whatever, other than that he seems to by a little - ok a lot hypocritical about the subject. lol shrug

P will never go down in history like the Elvis´s , Beatles etc, although they all stole their ideas from someone else, but this is something that will always set P apart from them, he has never claimed to invent music, he simply is it

Enough with that stupidity. Really. I mean, I know Prince can do little wrong in your eyes, but come on now.So, The Beatles & Elvis picked up guitars & "played them faster" than most other white people at the time because they saw the appeal in work by people like Chuck Berry. That's fine for cuts like "Twist & Shout." However, to think that Chuck Berry & the like had any impact on Sgt. Pepper & their other later albums is just ridiculous.

And as a matter of fact, Prince claims quite a bit of his own importance...in Undisputed, he sings "Once again, I don't follow trends, they follow me." Ironically, in an ill-conceived attempt at rap, a trend that he has never & will never lead.

In order to continue this stupidity further, are you like someone that edits reviews of books, ya know, pick out some sentence and twist it to suit your own view. I actually think you write brilliantly, but I seriously think you need to get out of the PR tour bus luggage compartment, and realize that it is 2008 wink

I am fully aware of what year it is. However, I apparently also have the ability to appreciate & distinguish quality, which you & a number of others here seem to lack. Like many, I do not think the majority of Prince's output over the last 15 years compares to the previous 15. It's obvious not selling as well, so there's the evidence of its diminished popular appeal. If you actually look at the music, it's the same thing. You can compare a song like Raspberry Beret to Kiss, or Alphabet Street and they come off fairly even. Put them (or a similar track) up against any of his more recent songs & they will decimate them.

Or at least that the guy open his vaults & put out previously unreleased music without censoring it. And not drivel like How You Wanna Be Done or alternate takes of Dark, P Control or Loose, but things we haven't heard before at all.

That is not a longing for the past. It's a desire to see a return to form. If Prince shot his creative wad 15 years ago & his current output is indicative of the standard of his work at present, then that's just sad. Its become increasingly obvious to most listeners that the man's best work is well behind him.

Peace

Good post, i agree with alot of what you say, as you know i have been a P fan for 24+ yrs, apart from my sometimes writing dumb posts here at the org, I have very little chance to discuss P´s music with others.

There is no doubt in my mind, that what he produced yrs ago is/was on a different level to today, but I accept that, for the simple reason, that Prince educated me about music and much more.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
