Prince's greatest inspiration

I have to admit I am really enjoying the Mayte inspired songs at the moment, I think you can really feel how much in love with her Prince is in these songs (Emancipation album/Gold Experience etc).

I also like the songs he wrote about Susanah Melvion though..such as those on the SOTT album.

Who do you think (out of all the women Prince has dated) was the biggest inspiration when it comes to his love songs?

As much as I hate to say it...Anna Garcia. Because we got Pink Cashmere out of that.

Anna Garcia, again under age when he met her, he wooed her and had her fly over when she was 18.
She is thanked in the Batman liner notes as Anna Fantastic. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic?

She did a spoken Dutch part on the initial version of the Dopamine Rush, called the Dopamine Suite, that ended up as a shortened instrumental version on Eric Leeds' Times Squared album. Which is a good thing, because her Dutch sounded awfully tacky. Like trailer trash tacky.

She was a beautiful girl. She inspired some of Prince's ballads around 1988/89. One of those was Anna Waiting, which he re-worked into Vicky Waiting. He asked her permission, as he had given her the song.

Would it be correct to say that "Noon Rendezvous" and "When 2 R in Love" were inspired by Sheila, or at least written with her in mind? Those are two of my favorites.

Two more of my favorites are "Crucial" and "Power Fantastic"--were those for Susannah?

Crucial, yes. Power Fantastic is about his relationship with God.

D'oh! I've always interpreted that as a love song. It just seemed to fit into a fear of commitment, fear of surrendering to something scary, etc.--but yes, what you said makes sense now.

Apparently The Beautiful Ones was written for Susannah Melvoin (or about her), so I'd have to say she was one of the best inspirations!

Oh, and I've just fallen in love with Friend/Sister/Lover etc. written for his wedding day with Mayte - so that too!! biggrin

I believe that Prince see's the Love of God in everything and every person...including His own reflection...makes me wonder, if Victoria looks into the mirror and sees Victor in Her heart.

i believe u do, but i believe he's scared of his own reflection, as much as most people fear the light of God, even though he sees it.

he is more inclined to one-up it, which is why it inspires him. then to balance the equation, he'll write a love song about himself, and keep that loop going for 30 years.
