4) But basically what I was saying from the beginning was that "Planet Earth", for what it is and stands for, is a pretty good album full of Pop, Rock, and Soul goodies. I think it freakin' RAAAWWWKS!!!! But some of you other orgers unfairly criticize it probably because he's not the old freak nasty Prince that we loved, or because it doesn't have that FONK that is Prince's stock and trade. But Prince can Rock as much as he can Funk, and this album proves it. And you know, for a while I've been waiting for Prince to get back into his Pop/Rock side, especially since his Funk was getting kind of stale. I mean, "3121" wasn't a bad album, but it sounded like he wasn't necessarily doing some other innovative shit either. I don't even think "Fury" rocked that much. But he definitely got it right with songs like "Guitar" and "Lion of Judah". I don't think this is a piece of shit like many of the haters would say. It could be worse. It could be NewPowerSoul. lol

That's pretty much all I have to say in this thread. yawn

dude chaos and disorder rocks more than this album ever will comfort

See. I'm sorry to say but you're just like one of these Heavy Metal headbangers that just wanna bang their heads. You're upset because there's very little funk on "Planet Earth". But what rule is there stating that Prince HAS to play Funk all the time. Besides, I don't think Prince's Funk hasn't smelled that good since "The Rainbow Children". But that's just me.

Anyways, like I said before, Prince can rock as hard as much as he can funk. So it was refreshing to hear him crank it up again on P.E. If you don't like that it wasn't funky enough, then that's your problem. Prince is a musician who plays music of all kinds, he's not just a Funk artist.

But to say that P.E. is complete and utter rubbish is just..well...kinda cold. It's pretty solid. I'm not saying it's perfect or up there with anything he did in the 80's. But it's still a pretty fun listen. Hell, it beats half the crap that's on the radio and MTV these days.

It must be "rehashed arguments" day on the Org.

Prince fans always cite this fact like it's some big accomplishment. Is it really a big deal to say that your album is better than ones by hacks like Hillary Duff?

Compare an album like Planet Earth to releases by more credible, less mainstream artists in 2007. Against albums like Songs of Mass Destruction and In Rainbows, Planet Earth is revealed as the mediocre album that it is.

1) I like old school music, but I like to put all of that into perspective (unlike some orgers who are just stuck there).

2) But some of you other orgers unfairly criticize it probably because he's not the old freak nasty Prince that we loved, or because it doesn't have that FONK that is Prince's stock and trade.

1) What is wrong with only liking a certain era of music? You can like whatever the fuck you want, and I'll like whatever the fuck I want. What I like does in NO WAY affect you or your musical preferences.

2) I don't 'unfairly' criticize PE. I like Musicology, TRC and NEWS, but I think 3121 and PE are boring, uninspired pieces of turd. Now that's how I feel about it. Again, as said, you can like them all you want... that is none of my concern, just as me NOT liking PE shouldn't be your damn concern.

Also, there is no need for '15 new threads to get your point across'. You like PE, we get it. Now try to understand that some of us DON'T like PE. Deal with it.

Oh and, about funk being Prince's 'stock and trade' and us wanting to hear him 'play funk all the time', I got some news for ya... Prince has never been a funk artist. N-E-V-E-R. He has never made a full-fledged funk album, he has just, most of the time, had a few funk tracks on his albums (those funk moments were more abundant on his earlier work). He is a mixture of rock, pop, r&b and funk, that's what he's always been and that's what he's always gonna be.

Cheek

I can still enjoy this album.
Lion Of Judah, Resolution, Future Baby Mama, Somewhere Here On Earth and Chelsea Rodgers are some of my favourite Prince songs in the last few years...
I don't say I like it more or less than certain albums - I just like it the way it is.

well i am a gutarist as well and prince was the reason i picked it up in the 1st place and i have all types of distortion pedals and love 2 c prince rock out on it just as much as i love the funk chops. guitar is the only song that does rock on that album. but just as much as i love the funk and the rock stuff, i like the ballad side, the pop side and the jazz sides. there is nothing outside of guitar and shoe that even comes close 2 making that album enjoyable.

it sure isn't endorphinmachine either..now that rocks!!!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

From the outside looking in, there is one common theme with this topic. It seems like both sides, those who dig PE and those who hate PE, are trying to convince everyone that their views are right. They are just opinions. If you love PE, more power to you. If you hate PE, more power to you. I know it's like this with all Prince CD's, but there is a more agressive tone with this CD than with most, with the exception of The Rainbow Children. It's just music. Do what you will with it. Just my twocents.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
