PLANET EARTH ROCKS, GODDAMMIT!

If this were by any other artist (perhaps a new one), then the album would be even more amazing. But I guess this isn't good enough by those who judge Prince albums. I think the reason why those that hate the album is because they want the freak-nasty Prince from the early 80's.

"Dirty Mind" is over, kids. Fucking deal with it. If you want that sound back, go out and create it yourself (like what I'm doing with my music here in NYC guitar).

Also, 3121 wasn't a bad album, but I can't say that it was better than "Planet Earth". On some songs it sounded like Prince was trying to sound like what was on the radio and MTV. But he swears that he doesn't follow any new and trendy music. The songs were nice, but we were used to hearing the R&B/Funk side of Prince. But I was very glad to hear Prince crank the amp volume up to 11 and RAWWWWK OUT!!!! He also brought back some of that psychedelic Pop/Rock that made The Revolution so remarkable. smile

Anyways, "Planet Earth" rocks, I don't care what you say!

I don't know if the album would be more amazing. It would still be the same album. But, as I've stated before, if this album were released as is, by an unknown artist, and promoted by a major label, critics would absolutely rave about it. Period.

It would be on everyone's "top albums of the year" list over in the music: non Prince forum, and would definetly win an award or two. But, because it's Prince (and Prince has done a lot better) it becomes just another album.

Don't try and say this shit wouldn't happen. I see it all the time. A new artist releases a decent album and everyone goes ape shit. Amy Winehouse

All of Prince's music rocks..it's just that when you become so familiar with His music...somewhere within these posts, you find yourself attempting to put one song over another or an album over another....Although I am just happy to have the entire Prince collection to play whenever I want to.

Boy, am I ever tired of people accusing those who don't like Prince's new albums of just wanting the old dirty Prince. For the last time, that is not it.

I don't care if Prince never again talks about cumming on a girl's wedding gown. I just want Prince to be adventurous and natural again.

He sounded that way on F.U.N.K. I wish he'd sounded like that across Planet Earth.

I like TRC, NEWS (yes, NEWS), even some of NPS (omfg). I do not like Planet Earth, and it doesn't have a damn thing to do with missing the past (which ironically NWF seems to--he's the one talking 'bout how *his* band is creating the Dirty Mind sound, has a user name that means New Wave Forever, and always mentions how great it would be to have W&L back). You don't think the song "Planet Earth" qualifies as adventurous? I am not a huge fan of the song myself, but I do think that it holds an almost epic like quality.

I think a lot of times if music doesn't sound the way we would like it to sound, we tend to question it's merits and characteristics.

Maybe I should be more clear: when I say I wish he sounded adventurous across Planet Earth, what I mean is that he only sounds that way in some select songs.

I think the title track is one of them. Infact, I think the first four songs are quite good (even The One U Wanna C is good dumb fun).

I just HATE Chelsea Rogers, though. I really, truly hate it.

Prince fans complain about quite a bit these days; the fact that Prince doesn't swear or use vulgar language in his new music is almost never brought up against him. It's just a red herring hardcore fans use to defend his new music.

The real issues that detractors continually mention are related to production, a lack of originality, and a lack of lyrical depth.

i'm not a fan of 3121 nor planet earth but i'm thankful, he's done a lot and i'm content with it. i dont want the dirty mind, purple rain nor 1999 eras back- they were cool eras because i was there and it was my present. prince as an artist past his creative peak yet still a great live performer and that is ok with me.i think he's got at least one more in him but its not a double album, it wont be dirty and it wont sell anyway-but we'll enjoy it regardless of what the mainstream believes. just like old times

1) I will go on record and say that I have met DevotedPuppy. And from what I can recall, she told me that she prefers the funkier side of Prince rather than the rockin' side. And that's fine if you like that. But while I'm into the funky side, I love it when Prince cranks his guitar up and he's ready to RAAAWWWWKK!!! Honestly, I dont' care what genre Prince gets into, as long as it sounds good to me. I'm into just about everything the man creates, so my ears are open. But there's other orgers here that are completely intolerant of Prince stepping out of his R&B/Funk box. Some are even worse than them Heavy Metal headbangers that just wanna bang their heads to uptempo distorted noise. lol But as long as Prince does it right, then any genre he'll tackle is cool with me.

2) Yes, I go by the handle New Wave Forever because I like to pay tribute to my favorite period of music. But I do understand that that was then and this is now. And I'm not limited to that either. I love all kinds of music from the past, present, and future. I'm not someone who dwells on the past or is completely nostalgic. I like old school music, but I like to put all of that into perspective (unlike some orgers who are just stuck there). I'm about taking that inspiration from the past and bringing it into the future. Also, my own personal music doesn't sound like "Dirty Mind" or anything from that era. Yeah, I love it and I'm inspired by it. But with that inspiration in mind I try and create my own musical style. I could never re-create or emulate that sound anyways without making it sound like an obvious cheap ripoff. And some things are just sacred to me.

3) Yes, I did say one time that a Revolution reunion would be nice. And it's great to know that on "Planet Earth" Prince came pretty damn close. But there's no point in feeling too nostalgic about it since a full-fledged reunion probably won't happen. If I wanna reminisce, I'll just go back and listen to one of the old CD's or watch one of my concert DVD's or something. But I've always got my ears open to what my little purple hero is doing these days. Sure, it may not sound like his 80's work, but I'm sure there's still some pretty good stuff he's creating.

4) But basically what I was saying from the beginning was that "Planet Earth", for what it is and stands for, is a pretty good album full of Pop, Rock, and Soul goodies. I think it freakin' RAAAWWWKS!!!! But some of you other orgers unfairly criticize it probably because he's not the old freak nasty Prince that we loved, or because it doesn't have that FONK that is Prince's stock and trade. But Prince can Rock as much as he can Funk, and this album proves it. And you know, for a while I've been waiting for Prince to get back into his Pop/Rock side, especially since his Funk was getting kind of stale. I mean, "3121" wasn't a bad album, but it sounded like he wasn't necessarily doing some other innovative shit either. I don't even think "Fury" rocked that much. But he definitely got it right with songs like "Guitar" and "Lion of Judah". I don't think this is a piece of shit like many of the haters would say. It could be worse. It could be NewPowerSoul. lol

It's an average album at best...just as average as most pop/r&b albums released these days...I'm not hating, I'm just voicing my opinion...

and it's really not a matter of wanting to hear him talk of fucking the taste outta someones mouth, it's a case of wanting the diversity and surprise that used to come with a new Prince album...the last three have been; well, they've been anything but surprising or diverse... neutral

I'll be honest with y'all ( But of course, have I ever been anything other than?) after I kept reading posts from you guys on how much it sucked, I expected it to be as bad as 3121. But when I finally listened to PE, I don't think it was really all that bad. Not the greatest, but no where near as bad as what you guys have been crying about.
Since then, I've been trying to come to terms with a very powerful, yet painful realization that set in after the initial listening to that album:
That when I come online to this site,
I'm hanging out with a big buncha onionheads.
