Rolling Stone Interview 1990 For anyone who hasn't read this .... it's a MUST!
Fascinating! If you ever wondered about Prince's take on the Revolution disbanding, his relationship with Morris Day and The Time, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, his thoughts on Graffiti Bridge, UTCM, the first time he "got any"! and so much more - read this! Brilliant article http://princetext.tripod....one90.html [Edited 2/19/08 7:24am]

"Wendy and Lisa are going to have to do some more serious soul-searching and decide what they want to write about," he says sadly and shakes his head. "I don't know what Wendy and Lisa are so hurt about. I wish I did, but I don't."
Yikes. | |

"When I was a kid, I didn't want to hear James Brown play something I never heard before. I wanted to hear him play something I knew, so I could dance."

I'll definitely be keeping this on file (along with a few other infamous/interesting interviews he's done). I haven't finished reading it, but I'm already intrigued and interested in it. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Oh great, glad you're enjoying it. I really love the last section where everyone's sleeping on the plane, but not Prince! He's still that man's unbelievable! My really strong impression reading it, was how sane and normal P sounds. I've decided it's all of us on the Org that are bonkers, not him!

The most interesting part (to me) was when he talked about Lisa and Wendy...and how he couldn't understand why they felt so hurt when the Revolution broke up. I think Prince has an ability to separate personal relationships from professional ones - something he'd need to be able to do to get as far as he has.
Lisa and Wendy were so young when they started working with him (Wendy was only 19, I think - and it was her first experience in a band). Thinking back on how I was at that age, I suspect that their identities got very caught up in "being the Revolution." When the Revolution disbanded (no pun intended), it was almost like they didn't know who they were anymore. And they blamed Prince. My first career ended very tumultuously, too. I felt incredibly betrayed and hurt - and my relationship with my employer wasn't nearly as personal as Lisa and Wendy's with Prince. I'm glad they've been able to get past some of that in the intervening years. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
