Why Do We Delve So Deeply....

Why Do many of us try to delve so deeply into the meanings behind Princes songs? Not that I think there is anything wrong with it, Im just curious. Is it because he is such an enigma, people are simply trying to get to know him a little better? Or do u have other reasons?
Would u want the man himself to expalin his songs to u? Personally I find that if an artist expalains their art it ruins something for me. I would much rather find my own personal meaning.
Most of the time I just enjoy the music for what it is lol I have always paid attention to the lyrics, dont get me wrong, but I dont think I have ever really looked so deeply into his songs until joining the org. Sometimes it can be fun, sometimes it can be downright frustrating lol
Awsome purple being that he is biggrin thumbs up!

Everything I bolded are my reasons... along with many others giggle

I find him extremely interesting as an artist and as a person. He uses his art to express himself and his feelings towards whatever inspires him. I believe he's a true artist that all writers can learn from cool

I've been writing for years b4 he came into my life. And he also inspires me in my venues of writing (poetry/fiction).

His music is just to get to know exactly the person he is and I liked learning about him. That's why I love this place. I get to know how everyone else feels about him and gain knowledge about him from them. cool

I would normally agree with you, but sometimes an artist is clear about the intent of his writing, and in that case, I think fact should triumph over perspective.

If Prince and I were talking on a regular basis, I would probably not ask...about anything...I would think that Prince would open as He chose to about His life. I would never want to make Prince feel uncomfortable.

What is life if you don't continue to learn? The human think box has 90 billion neurons and billions of glial cells just waiting to be used. Might as well use them exploring the meaning behind the lyrics. I know I've learned quite a bit already and I enjoy researching and learning.

There is only one that truly knows him;but we get an understanding of some of his beliefs and thoughts through his lyrics. As far as him explaining his songs to me, that's up to him. It's not like I would say please stop talking. lol Knowing me I'd have more questions than he might have time. confused

Prince is his music, that's what he lives for.
Most songs are like a personal message from Prince. His music speaks to my heart, therefore I can't help but to delve deeply into his lyrics.
I've always been intrigued by Prince. When it comes to Prince it's not just the music that is appealing to me; I'm mesmerized by his charisma. There is something about him that is very spiritual; almost magical.
The way he bares his soul in his music is very fascinating to me. It takes a lot of courage to be that honest and vulnerable, especially for someone with such a shy personality.
Many times his public behavior comes across as being conceited and narcissistic, but I think he's just trying very hard to cover up his ever present insecurities.
The way he constantly tries to connect with God is actually very humble.
Yes, Prince makes mistakes like the rest of us but his essence is and always will be LOVE.
To me Prince is a person blessed with superior intellect and talent. He has got to be one of the most interesting people on the planet.
In spite of Prince's occasional shortcomings and quirks, I have nothing but love and admiration for him.

Led Zeppelin never explained themselves. Pink Floyd never explained themselves. David Bowie never explained himself. The Beatles never explained themselves. Why should Prince do so?

Music is there to be explored and experienced. What you get from it is your own experience. I really don't care what anyone else feels. It is what I feel is important. That is why I don't ask questions. I don't question or mind the erratic and unusual behavior. It all just adds to my overall experience. I even love the extremely shit Prince songs because they are all part of the whole package.

The one thing I do though is not live my life according to Prince. His music is a part of my life but not essential. There are too many on here that need to get a grip on reality.
Looking for a new man. Freaks need not apply. Freeeks can tho ;-p

thumbs up! Booyah 2 that. Pretty much every day admiring Prince is a learning experience and that's one of those many things I enjoy about him. There's always so much to learn and uncover about him.
I also do a lot of guesswork with what his songs were about. I'd like to ask him maybe about how inspired one of them (3 guess which wink ). And out of curiosity, I'd like to see how close my explanations are to his visions. I think it get it right a lot of the time, but what do I know right?

In the end, it's not even a matter of being right or wrong. Just hearing his explanation would give me yet another way to look at his music. wink

i don't go searching 4 the holy grail in his lyrics but somethings he sings reflect what's going on in my life or it helps me get through things in my life. and on occasion, i have had 2 look up in the dictionary what some words mean. it all adds 2 my knowledge. if i can decipher some things about his life in his lyrics, cool, but otherwise i don't bother. it's all about the funk in the end.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I never gave much thought into what Prince was saying in his songs till I came to the org and even with that, I still don't dig that deeply into the songs. I've never been much of a lyrics man with songs but I will say that when I have given a thought to some of his songs, it's been quite enjoyable. It's fun to find out that a certain lyric has a double meaning to it or that a song like Tamborine is really a metaphor for masterbation (I'm still laughing at that one lol). I'm all about the music and I take the songs as they are. As long as I like it, then it's cool
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
