Prince hasn't done a song as funky as Van Hunt's The Lowest 1 Of My Desires in years... What a wonderful, seedy, funky, monster of a record.
Lolita? Chelsea Rodgers? Love? Nah... THIS is the kind of funk he should be making these days... [Edited 3/4/08 3:59am]

But Van hunt hasnt written a song as groundbreaking as when doves cry since the 20+ years that it released into the public forum. In short, Van Hunt is a cock knocker.. end of conversation.

I know i'm wasting my breath, but in analyzing the above statement here's the point.....
"Prince hasn't done a song as funky as Van Hunt's "The Lowest 1 Of My Desires" in Y E A R S." He didn't say Van Hunt was BETTER, didn't say Prince SUCKS, said it's been a minute since Prince did something that funky(raunchy). I know there's a shitstorm coming anyways, but i've done my part to divert it. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

what is with all this prince and funk stuff all the time...are people fans of prince music on the whole, or would it be best to just go and listen to james brown for some. Wouldn't you love to love me?

I didn't use Prince's weakest tracks, I selected his most recent funky efforts. Prince's funk just isn't dirty and gritty like it used to be. Maybe it's something to do with his age, combined with his religion... I'm talking about the kind of Prince who sang Head or Sexuality. I guess he's just not in that place in his life anymore.
But his recent efforts at funk just don't have that same bite. Whereas Van Hunt's new album in many respects reminds me of Prince's early funk music. It's raw, impish and oozing with sexuality. Tracks like Musicology or PFUnk sound like a middle-aged man knocking out a lazy pastiche of his old record collection because he has nothing left to prove. Van Hunt on the other hand, has EVERYTHING to prove and you can hear it in his music. [Edited 3/4/08 7:50am]

True. And I doubt VH will ever reach Prince's dizzy heights, but that doesn't mean he isn't talented in his own right. Popular is an awesome record, as was Jungle Floor. If this is where he peaks, that's nothing to be ashamed of.

[Edited 3/4/08 3:59am] the groove sounds nice, but I can't really listen to that song... it doesn't do it for me. Its like he woke up one day really horny, couldn't think of more poetic ways to express "I wanna fuck you" and just made that the lyrics out of laziness. Change it one more time..

[Edited 3/4/08 3:59am] I know it's hard to tell much by a 30 second sound clip but tell me this song "Lowest 1 onf My Desire" gets better as it goes along because recent Prince song comparisons aside, I just don't see what the big deal is. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He's not the same cat, nor should he be. P not being in the same place in his life is an understatement. And I'm not refering to his religion either. That said, I am one who has thought that P should not depend so much on his rep and put out better material if he's going to do so. But as far as Van Hunt, this cat so far, hasn't put out ANYTHING that could hold a candle to what P did 26 years ago. He's simply not the musician, songwriter, vocalist or producer P was 26 years ago. So yeah, he's putting out more passionate type funk than P has in recent years, sure. BUT untill Van outshines P in P's glory years, then I see no need for the comparison to P at all. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

It`s not about writing groundbreaking songs. That`s not what it´s about. To tell a good story in a great way with music and words doesn`t mean it has to be groundbreaking. Great songwriting is about turning your inside out. "When doves cry" is a wonderful song, but the writing isn´t groundbreaking actually. What´s groundbreaking about it is the production. Have you heard the song "What can i say" from Van Hunt? That is suberb songwriting. Wheter you relate to it or not, technically speaking this is songwriting at its best. Calling Van hunt a cock knocker says a lot more about yourself than it does about Van Hunt or in fact anybody else. [Edited 3/4/08 11:44am] Love...thy will b done

Do you really think religion makes is impossible to be funky? Come on I think P wwas always religious and he was making funking music in the pass.
Anytime he does anything close to funk most of the people on this board bitch about it anyway. I get tired of Prince does not do this or that the way the flavor of the month does because of none of the flavors can make it past 3 CD's. ----- MattyJam said: I didn't use Prince's weakest tracks, I selected his most recent funky efforts.
