I know there's a version on the Crystal Ball set.
There's another version that contains saxophone on it which I think is slightly superior.

yes Crucial heart - vital, essential, indispensable
The insert on the crystal ball CD reads:
Crucial - Cool ballad, originally intended for Sign o' the times album - replaced by Adore. All instruments and vocals by Prince.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but "Crucial" is so much better than "Adore," IMO. I wish he had kept in on SOTT.

In any event, track down the Cystal Ball set to hear it. Even better, find the longer version, which was never officially released.

Twinkly1

Crucial Lyrics
Artist: Prince (Buy Prince CDs)
Album: Crystal Ball

Baby, U've got 2 be from a different world
Cuz just one look from U could make an army surrender
Baby, U've got 2 rescue me girl, girl
A prisoner in love with the opposite gender

I ain't sayin' U're better, baby, but I ain't sayin' U're not
I ain't sayin' anything until U stop
Never forget that cuz baby, I'll be your jack of all trades
A mind and body well made

Crucial - baby, our love has got 2 be
Crucial - everything from A 2 Z
Crucial - U've got 2 show me everything, everything, everything

Is that Old Man River knockin' at your door
Sayin' that we got 2 let more than our feelings show?
Baby, 2night don't hold nothin' back, I know U've got some more
I'll give U mine if U give me yours

I ain't sayin' U're better, baby, I ain't sayin' U're not
I ain't sayin' anything until U stop
Baby, don't hold me back cuz baby, I.. baby I need a jack 4 all trades
A mind and body well made

Crucial - our love has got 2 be
Crucial - every little thing from A 2 Z
Crucial - U've got 2 show me everything, everything, everything

Is it about puttin' in "work"? jerkoff

There is no version with Miles Davis. There are several different versions, one with guitar, one with sax.

The confusion comes from one of the most well known, older bootleg releases called 'Crucial' attributed to Prince with Miles Davis (or some similar phrase), a collection of late/post Revolution era out-takes, including Crucial, and 'Can I Play With U' (which does feature Miles Davis - but only this track).

No, there is a bootleg called "Crucial: with Miles Davis and Friends." And it has 2 songs with MD on them, one is "Can I Play With You" the other is an instrumental song Prince may have written that is on of MD albums. I think it is called Amanda or Amandla. But MD is not on the song "Crucial."

from dtt-lyrics.com

on "Can I Play with U"

"Recorded in late December 1985 for Miles Davis for possible inclusion on his Tutu album, Miles and his keyboard player, Adam Holzman, added their parts to the tune, but when Prince heard the other material, he did not think his number fit and pulled it. The lyrics has Prince's speeded up vocals making advances on a girl, while the song is highlighted by Eric Leeds' funky sax riff and Prince's frenzied guitar playing."

Yes.

It's a saxophone, not a trumpet.

The only Prince studio recordings I know of that feature Miles Davis are Sticky Wicked, on Chaka Khan's CK and "Can I Play With U?", a rather messy song with Davis freewheeling over the song, making it even more frantic. I don't like it much.

Prince boasted about more material, but, what a surprise, chose not to share it with the world.

I ignored the messy Sax to accomodate a funky tune. It actually isnt that bad if u just imagine it wasnt there. And Princes camille vocals and dirty lyrics couldnt get no betta. Hoefulyl one day it will get released even without the Miles dub over it.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.
