Let us pick, Prince r u listenin

What would you think if Prince put 1 minute snippets of 15-30 new tracks on his website. Club members only, pick their 10-12 faves and email responses to npgutellus. These tracks, picked by the fans, would compose a new membership cd.

Only 1 minute snippets are played so there would be no complete song to bootleg.

Only members get to vote for their favorites. (you know Prince would have the final choice)

Cd only sent to club members, not released to retail.

The first year I was so happy to get new songs each month to download that those songs could have easily been on a cd, a great cd IMO, not compressed to become a bad download.

Just think if we downloaded snippets of:

Habibi
When eye lay my hands on u
Props and pounds
My Medallion
Underneath the Cream
Van Gogh
Northside
High
Daisy Chain
Afterpart
and so many others

voted, and in our mailbox arrived a 'fan supported' cd from the club.

He could post, just like 'the contest song', 10 snippets in Jan., 10 snippets in Feb., and March press up a 12 track cd with great sound.

He could pull back catalog stuff, new stuff, live stuff, whatever he wanted us to hear.

Prince, just hire me as a marketing rep and I am sure we could get this club going smoothly. The club is a good idea but it needs some fan tweaking. I have some great ideas. Mail me.

hmm good idea in principle but I can't think of three songs from Year 1 or year 2 that i liked. The problem is that the Prince FANatics want all the songs even the bad ones...

I love the idea. Of course Prince would grow tired of the project before the results were in.

Thats funny, because I like almost all of the songs I have downloaded from year one, and have made myself a wonderful cd that I listen to 10 times more than ONA. I know it could have a better quality of sound but its 60 mins worth of Prince doing all kinds of music, a fans dream in my case. If you have been a fan for 15 years, you get to hear a lot of the outtakes, good and bad. When he was giving us monthly songs to download, songs that I had never heard before, I could only be grateful for the wonderful presents.

He offered the 'take your pick' concept at the first Celebration, where attendees voted for a selection of trax on Crystal Ball 2 and a rock guitar album.

Immediately afterwards, the official site advised that the albums were being worked on.

Deja vu?

thats sounds good, but, I did not get to make it to the Celebration, therefore no input on my part. The in-person, impromptu thing is a limited audience. If you paid the $100, get feedback from club members. I would love to tell him my wants for CB2

I was there and I, of course picked the guitar album as the next disc to be made. I can remember that you could choose between several other ideas. There was Guitar album, Piano Ballads album, Vault material, and others. Anyone remember what the other choices were?

You could also leave a message to Prince on the computer. It was cool because my message showed up on his website the next week.

Oh, and we sat at a row of i-Macs to do this. It's nice to know that Prince is a Macintosh man...

Fair enough - but the point I'm making is that even when he appeared to ask for input, and then even stated that the albums were being worked on - nothing emerged.

I think many people would like to be his marketing rep. in theory, but to me it would seem like a thankless job if I was asked to market the NPGMC 2002 by referring to a list of albums both on the website and in a tour booklet, and then to discover 8 months later that they were not necessarily intended product but 'just ideas'.

All of this merely underlines that:

1. Prince has to retain control.
2. Regardless of whether he is CONtractually bound or 'emancipated' many of the projects he talks about fall by the wayside. Therefore ...
3. If you hitch a ride (as I do) expect it to be a rollercoaster full of thrills and spills, but also frustrations and unfulfilled expectations.
