Has Prince ever performed on Soul Train? I've been vexed by this question forever. I mean, I've watched Soul Train since day one, and while I know I haven't seen every show, I don't recall Prince ever being on the show. If he has appeared do you know when? If he hasn't appeared, do you know why?

Yes, he has been on there. I mentioned it in my thread about him perfoming on Arsenio Hall's show.

U mentioned Acknowledge Me and Love Sign, and I know he did The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Mustang Mix). What was the other one? Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

Yes, he was on Soul Train. At the end of one of his songs, he did a stage dive thing into the audience and some guys caught him and held him up like he was crowd surfing!

He lipsynced every song, how can that be one of your favorite performances?
That at that sleeveless outfit he had on made him look like Wormser from the 'Revenge of the Nerd' movies. [This message was edited Wed Oct 23 12:07:19 PDT 2002 by mrchristian]

I hate it when he lip-synchs.he's so much better than that.I got a boot from 93 when he played NY's radio city music hall.He takes the piss out of Madonna who was in the audience by saying "something's wrong, i think i should be lip-synching!".That would have been funnier if he didn't sometimes resort to it!
Why do it on TV to a much larger audience and purposefully make yourself look less talented than you really are?

He also lip synched on The American Music Awards when he first changed his name to and he performed 319 amd I Hate U. And that was a very great performance in my opinion. He looked great also!!!

I remember this with the Love Sign thingie with Nona. At the time I was very puzzled by the gun thing at the end.

Yeah, this was great. I only wish he hadn't lipsynched it. But I realize that is the format.

I've always wondered why Prince never appeared on 'Soul Train' in his early days. The Time,Vanity 6 and Sheila E. all appeared on 'Soul Train' in the early 80s but Prince never did.Perhaps he was just too shy to do the Don Cornelius interview?

Damn, I don't even remember this performance...

I thought the same thing. I also thought the idea of lip-synching would have been a factor too.

1994 doesn't seem that way back! (I must be getting old.) I'm thinking like DavidEye; an appearance during the Dirty Mind/Controversy days would've have been awesome. I remember his appearance on the Midnight Special. I think he might've done Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, too.
