I doubt it as it was on the North Eastern side of Chalk Farm Road and the fire was on the other side.

Just checked

It was the canal market which caught fire - the NPG Store was opposite the Stables Market.

The fire was about 150 yards round the corner.

I wondered about that when I heard the news of the fire. neutral

The shop is still standing. A couple of months ago I happened to be passing as I live nearby and popped in to see how it looked now. It was owned/rented by a couple with a young baby as a kind of grocery store. Went down to the basement which now functions as a kind of off-licence type area. Doesn't look like they'll be there for too long - everything very spread out and sparse. Brought back lots of memories - I was about 16 when I last went. It seemed smaller than I remembered. All repainted bright white inside with laminate floors. (No time capsule!) It was my mecca!
