THE ARMS OF ORION appreciation thread (seriously) inspired by everyone's general hatred of the song. while i'm not completely over it, i don't understand why it gets such a bad rap. i think it's because i was raised on disney movies and all those lame love/theme songs and junk. it's like those, but with prince on it. gotta love his (and even sheena's) vocals on it and it's damn catchy (so is syphyllis ). love the music and the whole breakdown at the end. not his est moment or creative peak, you know, but it works, it's okay. he's done worse. (my medallion, pheromone, right the wrong, etc. )quite corny, but i know someone else out there likes it (or at least doesn't mind it much ).
not too many s please. [Edited 2/15/08 1:21am] For all time I am with you, you are with me.

It's a good movie-ballad; the main problem is its glossy production and the silly lyrics, but the song is quite catchy and the melodies are excellent. It's a movie ballad, so I don't mind if it sounds corny; nevertheless, Prince did worse ballads than this one during the 90's, so...

I believe the correct title is, "That Orion Mess." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

the melody is great and i like how they trade off each other vocally man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Batman '90 has a special place in my heart. I was a shy kid of 5 when this movie came out. Back then, I didn't know much about Prince but LOVED almost all the songs on the album at the time. I still love this album. The Arms of Orion is my top favorite song because it inspired me to make my first romantic piece of art for my boyfriend. I was listening to it over and over as I drew and blended and created. When I first heard it, indeed I did play it off as one of those cliche love songs, but...it grew on me. I dunno. I began to read deeper into the lyrics by placing them in my personal life and the song had greater meaning. Sure, it's a tad cheesy, but sometimes milk does a body good, y'know?

I like it. I think it's a lot better than Adore which I hate.

I think The Arms Of Orion is a great song. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It deserved an Oscar nomination. I'd go as far as to say AoO is quite superior to the campy "Under the Sea". Bruce Wayne's ballad with Vicki Vale on this number really captured the essence of Batman's tortured existence, conveying both the turmoil of self-imposed blueballs and the sweet relief that Robin rumours weren't circulating Gotham City this time around. Beneath that sculpted kevlar armor and street-toughened exterior was a hopeless romantic, whimsically longing to live on the moon in the JLA watchtower yet knowing full well his soul belonged to the dark streets of Crime Alley. I also caught bitter envy toward Superman at parts and a cheeky suggestion that he wished Vicki was actually Wonder Woman. Bruce Wayne wrote a superb song. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.
